What You'll Do
The Disciplined Operations Specialist (DOS) will provide technical oversight and guidance to ensure proper Conduct of Operations (CONOPS) practices are implemented within various organizations at the Y-12 site. The DOS will collaborate within their assigned organization(s) to ensure compliance with Department of Energy (DOE) Order 422.1, Conduct of Operations. Regular interface with management to ensure activities are executed in accordance with CONOPS requirements will be required.
Responsibilities
- Support tactical programs that are led within as well as outside their organization to monitor and improve CONOPS practices
- Significant exposure and communication with outside customers, such as NNSA Field Office (YFO) and Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (DNFSB) is expected
- Responsible for thorough application knowledge of the Y14-001 ‘Y12 Conduct of Operations Manual’ and other supporting documents
- Provides coaching and mentoring of the assigned site area and associated activities to evaluate CONOPS by verification of controls and compliance with requirements
- Completes the Disciplined Operations Specialist (DOS) qualification/training plan
- Develops a working knowledge of Safety Basis Documents (SAR & TSR), Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs), Un- reviewed Safety Question (USQ) documents, and their controlled flow down into operating procedures
- Maintains awareness of the basic priorities of activities in their assigned areas
- Keeps the Disciplined Operations Manager, the matrixed/assigned organization manager, and other key customers informed of issues/events in their assigned areas
- Performs in field observations continuously/daily, and when specially assigned
- Enters observation data into database for tracking/trending
- Recommends to the Disciplined Operations Manager and assigned organization manager improvements to increase CONOPS compliance
- Communicates with line management to discuss facility (org) activities
- Assists line management by identifying areas for CONOPS improvement; identifies and tracks resolution of discrepancies
- Facilitates continuous improvement initiatives of hands-on technical procedures
- Performs other tasks and roles as directed by the Disciplined Operations Manager
Accountabilities
- To the Disciplined Operations Manager for the effective implementation of disciplined operations and CONOPS requirements within assigned facilities/organizations
- To the Y-12 Site Manager, for assistance in resolution of issues and assessments in support of disciplined operations
- To the assigned organization’s Senior Director and/or Director, for their assistance in support of the continued improvement of organizational conduct of operations improvement initiatives
- To the hands-on workers concerning the efforts to support and improve their overall understanding and application of Conduct of Operations requirements

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
- OR Master's degree: Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
- Ten (10) or more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this posting
Preferred Job Requirements
- Knowledge of the principles of Conduct of Operations as described in DOE (Department of Energy) Order
- 422.1 is highly preferred
- Typical experience ranging from 4 to 7 years
- BS in engineering/science is preferred; five or more years of technical and/or nuclear experience is preferred
- Leadership and/or significant support roles in a procedure compliance environment is preferred
- Work history in interdisciplinary functions is preferred
- Technical writing experience is preferred
- Self-starting individual that can exercise sound judgement while dealing with competing priorities
- Strong Technical Skills are highly preferred
- Proficiency in C# preferred, but is not required
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate up and down the organization is required
- Must have experience working in an environment where strict adherence to established procedures is required
- Must possess the skills to assess compliance with operational procedures, nuclear safety requirements, and technical safety requirements
- Relevant military experience will be considered as a valid substitute for this requirement
