The expected hiring range for this position is
$32.72-$42.30.

About the Role:
Under general supervision, the Senior Design Drafter within the Particle Physics Directorate (PPD) prepares and electronically stores complex designs, details, assemblies, and schematics to satisfy design requirements for mechanical and electrical systems, utilizing Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and other job-related software applications, ensuring compliance and consistency to professional standards. Oversees assigned projects from inception through completion.
What your day-to-day as a Senior Design Drafter at Fermilab will look like:
- Prepare and create schematics, layouts, and other related documents.
- Create, modify and organize moderately complex 3D model assemblies and makes some design calculations. Recommend approach to be followed in developing drawings, as circumstances require.
- Provide information to assist with procurement, fabrication, assembly, installation, and other aspects of the completed design.
- Design and draw equipment and systems such as, "as built" new floor plans, and electrical/process diagrams, including field investigations.
- Maintain and update related files and databases; electronically store archives of drawings.
- Understands Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) application principles and applies to drawings.
- Select, recommend, and specify materials and equipment to be used in the preparation of complex design layouts and detail layouts.
- Research design solutions, assist in design development, and select components for design.
- Delegate work and mentor drafters and students, as circumstances require.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Abide by and is responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.
Skills and Attributes for Success:
- High School degree (or technical certificate) and 6+ years of related work experience
Applicable Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required:
- Comprehensive knowledge of Computer Aided Design systems and ability to produce moderately complex mechanical, electrical, or structural sub-assemblies.
- Experience in NX (handled in Teamcenter) or SolidWorks (handled in Windchill) with demonstratable strength in 3D modeling and 2D drafting.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Experience using Microsoft Office products (such as Excel, Word and Outlook).
- Solid understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GDT) application.
