The expected hiring range for this position is
$22.35-$28.89.

About the Role:
Under general supervision from the Security Lieutenant, responsible for providing customer service to the Laboratory by carrying out safety and security procedures, site-specific policies and when appropriate, emergency response activities on a 24 hours/day, 7 days/week environment.
What your day-to-day as a Security Officer at Fermilab will look like:
- Patrol property on foot and/or vehicle, securing personnel, assets, buildings, gates, and perimeter in all weather conditions; reporting any hazardous conditions, equipment malfunctions, or building alarms.
- Guard site access points, permitting or refusing entry based upon Fermilab Site Access policy, Post Orders, and/or Policy & Procedures, performing vehicle inspections for prohibited articles, issuing passes, and greeting personnel in a prompt, courteous and professional manner in all weather conditions.
- Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls; follows guidance in accordance with established procedures/policies.
- Employees are required to be available to provide coverage for other shifts as needed, with overtime required, when necessary, in adherence to departmental policies, procedures and requirements.
- Complete case reports on property loss, property damage, personnel incidents, vehicle accidents, etc.
- Communicate with the Security Operations Center and/or security staff via two-way radio or telephone.
- Maintain officer activity reports and completes patrol round assignments as directed.
- Keep informed of current and applicable Fermi Security and Fire Department policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Comply with Department (DOE) directives and the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) to ensure adherence to all applicable policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct equipment and vehicle checks and reports/logs deficiencies to supervisor.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Abides by and is responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.
Skills and Attributes for Success:
- High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 1+ years of relevant experience.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must possess 20-hour Basic Security Training certificate and IL PERC card.
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
Applicable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Use of two-way public safety radios, strong verbal, and written communication skills.
- Basic computer skills (MS Office), report writing.

Employment is contingent on the successful completion of a pre-employment drug testing, Psychological and Medical testing.

- Onsite: This is an onsite role, and the candidate must be able to work from our Batavia office.
