Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Test Bed Electrical Engineer to work in our Reactor Project Engineering department. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our Materials and Fuels Complex with every Friday off. You will provide electrical engineering to support the design, construction, and testing of a National Reactor Innovation Center (NRIC) reactor experiment test bed. You will apply engineering principles to electrical systems and electrical power transmission and distribution as they relate to test bed design activities. Collaborate with associated engineering professions to ensure the development of integrated systems to promote safe,, reliable delivery of power to the end-user. Work with reactor experiment projects that are planning to use the NRIC test bed. Responsibilities Include: - Work with a diverse team of scientists and engineers on a reactor experiment test bed. - Decompose project goals into defined and controlled design requirements using a systems engineering approach and applying digital engineering tools for tracking requirements and design parameters. - Use design methodologies, technologies, and processes which are best practice for the technical discipline to develop a design, and to validate that the design meets defined requirements. - Apply electrical engineering theories and principles to develop designs for secure, sustainable,, robust, or reliable electrical power systems to support operating a test bed for reactor experiments. - Apply sound engineering principles in the development of electrical power-related systems to support operating a test bed for reactor experiments. - Collaborate with project team to develop functional and operation requirements, system design descriptions, and test procedures for equipment. - Use digital engineering tools to the maximum extent possible for design completion. - Collaborate with project team in developing system alternatives and analyze alternatives to ensure program requirements are met. - Establish and maintain configuration management of assigned system(s) while maintaining existing drawings and databases. - Create design of experiments including data acquisition, data collection in laboratory, and appropriate data reduction as dictated by project needs. - Mentor junior engineers and other technical personnel in appropriate test procedures, maintenance, and laboratory activities. - May be responsible for all electrical engineering aspects of project work, including identifying the equipment, services, space, personnel, work controls., required to complete given projects. - May direct others or work directly with equipment vendors to diagnose and repair malfunctions and design and specify new equipment to meet customer requirements. - May direct and execute the application design, set-up, and basic operation of complex high power and high voltage equipment and systems.
