Under direct supervision, provide routine mechanical maintenance and technical support for the Accelerator Directorate, Target Systems Department. The expected candidate will be required to work off-hour shifts or respond to emergency call-ins as needed.
You Will:
- As instructed, conducts routine fabrication, set-up, operation, testing, repairs, and/or modifications for moderately complex Laboratory projects/equipment in the assigned area, based on drawings, diagrams and schematics.
- Assists in construction and assembly of experiment and support equipment. Prepares equipment for operation. Assists in testing and calibration of equipment.
- Writes procedures for all finished work. Enters relevant work information into a database and/or personal logbook.
- Provides preventive and routine maintenance for a wide variety of instruments and equipment in the assigned area. Troubleshoots problems and conducts repairs as needed.
- Conducts periodic safety inspections of assigned area, including generation of hazard analyses. Assists with the identification, packaging, control, and disposal of chemical and radioactive waste.
- Responds to operational and emergency responses such as maintaining equipment and/or systems and perform high radiation movement of objects.
- Procures and maintains inventories of small parts, supplies, materials, and equipment.
- Assists in the implementation and design of equipment and systems for area of assignment. Drives quality in all job aspects.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Abides by and is responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, Laboratory policies, procedures and practices pertinent to this position.
We are Looking For:
- HS degree (or technical certificate or equivalent). Relevant experience preferred.
Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Possesses and applies fundamental knowledge of mechanical and electrical practices, and procedures relevant to assigned area.
- Works well in a team environment with ever changing priorities and deadlines.
- Required to legally operate a government vehicle.
- Contributes effectively within a diverse workforce and upholds Fermilab’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, using Outlook and Excel
- Ability to operate power tools such as drills, saws, mills, lathes, belt sanders, angle grinders, and impact wrenches.
