Maintaining and protecting the safety and health of BNL employees, the public, and the environment is our mission. Our Industrial Hygiene group and staff provide expertise in support of the overall BNL mission by assisting in the implementation of the Brookhaven National Lab (BNL) Industrial Hygiene program.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Serve as the Supervisor of the Industrial Hygiene Program at Brookhaven National Laboratory. Responsible for overseeing the chemical and biological monitoring programs, ergonomics program, as well as chemical management program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (bulleted)
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Sciences or related health and safety field and a minimum of seven (7) years’ progressively responsible related work experience which demonstrates advanced capabilities and use of sophisticated engineering approaches.
Knowledge of OSHA/ACGIH regulations with IH impacts.
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Possession of a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
Willingness to obtain and maintain related professional certifications such as ASP, CSP, CIH.
Must demonstrate the ability to present ideas and concepts orally and in writing in a clear and concise manner to communicate technical information and interact with individuals with diverse backgrounds and levels of understanding including senior management, engineers, scientists, and trade workers.
Must be a positive driver for change regarding BNL’s commitment to safety and compliance.
Interpersonal skills as demonstrated by performance as a positive driver for change regarding commitment to safety and compliance.
Willingness and aptitude to learn from our current Safety staff and to be a team player.
Solid safety-based reasoning skills.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: (bulleted)
Master’s degree or Ph.D. in a scientific discipline.
10 (ten) years’ progressively responsible related work experience which demonstrates advanced capabilities and use of sophisticated engineering approaches.
Previous supervisory experience.
Prior experience working at a DOE facility.
Working knowledge of 10CFR851.
Knowledge of ACGIH controls and recommendations.
Knowledge of Open Range Software.
Demonstrated experience in cross-functional collaboration, including working with occupational medical clinics, line management, and safety professionals to promote workplace safety.

Brookhaven Laboratory is committed to providing fair, equitable and competitive compensation. This is a multi-level role and the full salary range for this position is $111300 - $140000 / year. You will be placed at the level and salary commensurate with your experience. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate’s qualification, education and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
