Salado Isolation Mining Contractors (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as an
As-Built Engineer to join our team located in Carlsbad, NM.
The successful candidate will be responsible for producing, updating, and maintaining site facility and infrastructure baseline design drawings in concert with engineers in accordance with site policies, procedures, and standards. Will be required to review technical documentation and drawings against as-built equipment for technical accuracy and completeness of facility infrastructure, utility, surface, and sub-surface structures and systems for incorporation into the facilities drawings. Will also work with a small but dedicated drafting team to ensure that quality site and project deliverables are produced to support our customer’s critical mission set. Must be able to demonstrate technical flexibility in the course of executing duties in both design and as-built roles. Work from verbal and written instructions to perform duties, consulting with appropriate individuals as required. Create 2D/3D/BIM design drawings using AutoCAD and other AutoDesk software in conformance with requirements, applicable codes and design criteria while coordinating various disciplines. Work closely with other designers/engineers to coordinate space configuration changes and engineering discipline designs. Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested. Communicate with site customer, project managers, and engineering personnel.

- Bachelor’s Degree with two (2) years of relevant experience, or
- Associates Degree with six (6) years of relevant experience, or
- High School Diploma or Equivalency with ten (10) years of relevant experience is required.
- Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Must have demonstrated ability to read and interpret various designs, diagrams, and schematics.
Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
Higher education attainment than listed acceptable per internal level identifiers of accompanying years of experience.
Preferred Requirements
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite applications.
- Outstanding organizational skills, including the ability to multitask competing priorities.
- Previous WIPP experience is a plus.

Minimum salary $78,719 per year of a larger salary range --the specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
