Overview
The EPA National Student Services Contract has an immediate opening for a full time Planning and Budget Program Support position with the Office of Research and Development at the EPA facility in Research Triangle Park, NC.
The Office of Research and Development at the EPA supports high-quality research to improve the scientific basis for decisions on national environmental issues and help EPA achieve its environmental goals. Research is conducted in a broad range of environmental areas by scientists in EPA laboratories and at universities across the country.
What the EPA project is about
The Office of Resource Management (ORM) provides administrative and support services for all employees of EPA's Office of Research and Development (ORD). The Planning and Budget Division (PBD), one of several divisions within ORM, is tasked to provide budget formulation and execution services, along with travel services support to ORD.
Responsibilities
As a team member, you will support the Planning and Budget Division Immediate Office staff execute all business operations duties PBD has the lead responsibility to carry out for ORD. The candidate will assist PBD managers and staff (1) develop, validate, and edit financial reports; (2) summarize budget targets, expenditures, labor costs, travel expenses, commitments & obligations; (3) support year-end analysis to ensure ORD organizations utilize funds in compliance with established deadlines; (4) perform data entry in various ORD and Agency financial systems; (5) reconcile financial systems and make approved corrections; (6) coordinate and manage meetings; (7) perform regulation searches; (8) respond to information requests; (9) maintain records in accordance with Federal regulations; and (10 provide general administrative support (word processing, faxing, copying, mailing, scheduling).
The team member will perform duties, as requested, according to specifications and instructions provided by the mentor. All necessary instructions and training will be provided by the EPA mentor. As indicated in the Statement of Work, the candidate may be expected to participate in conferences and seminars.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Work Experience, and Education
- Strong mathematical, analytical and computer skills;
- A commanding knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; and
- A willingness to learn federal financial practices to include, but not limited to, accounting, budgeting, mathematics, and fiscal costing.
Location:This job will be located EPA’s facility in Research Triangle Park, NC.
Salary: Selected applicant will become a temporary employee of ORAU and will receive an hourly wage of $23.84 for hours worked.
Hours: Full-time.
Travel: Occasional overnight travel may be required.
Expected start date: The position is full time and expected to begin October 2024. The selected applicant will become a temporary employee of ORAU working as a contractor to EPA.

Qualifications
- Be at least 18 years of age and
- Have earned at least a bachelor’s degree in business management, political science, finance, mathematics, or other related area from an accredited university or college within the last 24 months and
- Be a citizen of the United States of America or a Legal Permanent Resident.
EPA ORD employees, their spouses, and children are not eligible to participate in this program.
