We are seeking a Reliability and Maintenance Coordinator who will focus on the reliability, availability, maintainability, and safe operation of systems within the Superconducting Linac (SCL) Systems Group at the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS).
This position will coordinate maintenance planning, work execution, reliability improvement, operational readiness, and performance monitoring for mission-critical accelerator and support systems. The successful candidate will work closely with system owners, engineers, technicians, operations personnel, planners, safety professionals, and other stakeholders to ensure maintenance activities are effectively planned, safely executed, properly documented, and aligned with facility priorities.
This position resides in the SCL Systems Group in the Accelerator Systems Section, Research Accelerator Division (RAD), Neutron Sciences Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
-
Coordinate preventive, predictive, corrective, and emergent maintenance activities for SCL systems and associated support infrastructure.
-
Develop, review, and maintain maintenance plans, work packages, procedures, job hazard analyses, permits, pre-job briefings, and other work-control documentation.
-
Apply fundamental reliability and maintenance practices to improve equipment availability, system performance, maintainability, and operational readiness.
-
Monitor system and equipment performance, maintenance trends, work-order data, recurring failures, and other indicators to identify opportunities for corrective action and reliability improvement.
-
Coordinate maintenance schedules and priorities with system owners, operations, engineering, craft personnel, planners, and facility stakeholders.
-
Support maintenance readiness for planned outages, system evolutions, startups, shutdowns, cooldowns, warmups, testing, and other complex operational activities, as applicable.
-
Lead or support root-cause evaluations, failure reviews, lessons-learned activities, and corrective-action development.
-
Ensure maintenance activities are conducted in accordance with applicable procedures, safety requirements, work-control processes, quality expectations, and facility requirements.
-
Review work execution and closeout documentation for completeness, accuracy, configuration control, and future maintainability.
-
Support development and improvement of preventive-maintenance tasks, inspection requirements, spare-parts strategies, equipment histories, and reliability-centered maintenance practices.
-
Prepare operational reports, maintenance metrics, status updates, technical documentation, and recommendations for management review.
-
Contribute to continuous-improvement initiatives using tools such as Lean, data analysis, process mapping, or other appropriate performance-improvement methods.

-
Significant experience applying fundamental maintenance and reliability processes in a complex industrial, research, manufacturing, aviation, energy, utilities, defense, or other mission-critical environment.
-
Experience developing or reviewing maintenance plans, work packages, procedures, permits, hazard analyses, pre-job briefings, or comparable work-control documentation.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
An MS degree in engineering, maintenance management, operations management, aviation maintenance, or a related discipline.

Experience leading large or geographically distributed technical, maintenance, operations, or production organizations.
-
Experience in military, aviation, Department of Energy, nuclear, research, manufacturing, or similarly regulated environments.
-
Experience with maintenance readiness reviews, outage planning, operational risk assessment, or configuration management.
-
Demonstrated success improving equipment reliability, maintenance efficiency, work execution, safety performance, or operational readiness.
-
Professional certification or formal training in reliability engineering, maintenance management, project management, Lean Six Sigma, or a related discipline.
This position may require:
