What You'll Do
As part of the Linux team, you will be responsible for the Linux system administration, PKI administration and RSA administration supporting the national security mission to maintain the safety, security, and effectiveness of the United States nuclear weapons stockpile. As part of the IT organization’s Operations team, the Linux system admin position allows you to work in a challenging and rewarding environment.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Determining specifications and requirements for hardware and/or software compatibility and maintenance.
- Managing the Linux configurations and deployments for the most efficient operation in a secure manner to meet DOE/NNSA requirements.
- Participation in scheduled maintenance activities as well as on call rotation.
- Harden Linux technologies for security purposes.
- Troubleshoot issues and work with other technical and functional personnel to complete problem resolution.
- Perform application and system updates following an approved change control process.
- When necessary, lead efforts to define functional requirements; conduct detailed analysis of alternative solutions and make/buy options; design complex system enhancements and interfaces; develop prototype systems to refine design and requirements; document design and detailed specifications; develop data models and related data structures; plan for configuration control, testing, security, and quality assurance.
- Perform system test and validations; verify system expectations and requirements; ensure system operation; perform enhancements and improvements.
- Works with the Network Operations Center to implement monitoring capabilities and strategies to ensure optimum system available and proactive response to issues.
- Ensure that all appropriate implementation procedures are developed and/or followed in a routine basis.
- Ensure that all appropriate operating procedures, contingency plans, and security policies are developed and/or followed on a routine basis.
- Keeping pace with technical advancements within computing infrastructure and supporting software. Incorporate new technologies as appropriate.

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering/science/information technology discipline: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
- Master's degree in engineering/science/information technology discipline.
- Ten or more years of relevant education, training, and/or progressive experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this posting. For postings on the Engineering, Science and IT Ladder, in lieu of a technical bachelor's degree, the Operations Professional Ladder may be considered.
- Required experience working with the technologies listed below. Supporting more than one is preferred.
