What You'll Do
The CNS Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) Software Quality Engineer is responsible for implementing Software Quality Assurance for the UPF Project as required by 10 CFR 830 Subpart A, DOE Order 414.1D, and ASME NQA-1-2008, Part I (including addendum NQA-1a-2009), Part II (including addendum NQA-1a-2009), and other UPF Contract Line-Item Number (CLIN) 2 Applicable Directive requirements. This position supports the Project by serving as the technical and administrative interface with the Software Management database (SMan) which maintains software documentation. This position will report to the CNS UPF Quality Director and receive daily direction from the CNS UPF QA Program & Coordination Lead, and will work closely with personnel across the UPF Project and beyond.
The position supports a disciplined approach in the specification, procurement, acceptance, installation and testing of UPF project software, firmware, and programmable logic controllers. Provides advice and directives on matters relating to the interpretation and implementation of SQA requirements. Performs work that requires the application of a significant range of fundamental principles in a variety of contexts related to software management. Demonstrates a systematic, focused, and analytical approach to problem solving.
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Serve as the UPF Project Software Quality Engineer ensuring that acquired and developed project software meets the project software quality assurance requirements.
- Implement UPF Software Quality Assurance Program. Interface with Y-12 software quality program to ensure alignment.
- Analyze SQA requirements and evaluate existing and new work processes
- Interface with software owners and functional representatives to ensure compliance with software quality requirements
- Identify opportunities for improvement in the execution and implementation of software quality
- Assess and monitor implementation of software quality program
- Support assessments/surveillances of UPF SQA program
- Serve as SME for software on audits/surveillances of UPF suppliers
- Assists project team member in the management of applications in all phases of the lifecycle
- Provide technical direction, development, training, and mentoring of subordinate team members or to UPF staff assigned to implement the program
- Analyze existing software applications in accordance with the UPF SQA program
- Review software development and documentation required by project for content and accuracy
- Supports the general implementation of the UPF Quality Management System to include developing procedures, performing oversight activities, and providing quality related training

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree
- OR Master's degree
- OR 8 or more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this posting
Preferred Job Requirements
- Advanced knowledge and application of Software Quality Assurance requirements found in key project requirements documents, including;10 CFR 830 Subpart A, DOE Order 414.1D, national consensus standard ASME NQA -1- 2008/ASME NQA-1a-2009 Addenda to ASME NQA-1-2008, and U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Regulatory Guide Series or quality assurance work experience germane to high value, safety significant construction/start-up projects
- Current or previously Lead Auditor qualified and/or recognized as a Certified Quality Auditor from a recognized professional organization such as American Society for Quality
- Experience participating in and supporting quality related assessments, surveillances, and/or audits
- Demonstrated experience mentoring and leading personnel efforts
- Experience in DOE 413.3b Program and Project Management activities to include Commissioning, Readiness, Start of Operation or Project Completion, and Project Closeout
- Knowledge and understanding of DOE Policies, procedures and regulatory requirements Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work independently
- Ability to use a computer with intermediate to excellent skills in Microsoft Office Software
- Knowledge of the application of engineering, procurement, and construction practices sufficient to comprehend specified QA requirements for these disciplines
