Qualifications
Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree and five years of full-time professional park law enforcement experience.
OR
Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree and five years of full-time professional law enforcement experience including at least one year of training responsibilities.

Necessary Special Qualifications: Applicants for this class must:
- Be willing to and able to qualify with, carry, and use assigned weapons.
- Be at least twenty-one (21) years of age on the date of application.
- Be a citizen of the United States.
- Have a good moral character, as determined by investigation.
- Complete a criminal history disclosure form in a manner approved by the appointing authority.
- Agree to release all records involving their criminal history to the appointing authority.
- Supply a fingerprint sample in a manner prescribed by the TBI for a fingerprint-based criminal history record check.
- Have no conviction for a felony or have been discharged under any other than honorable condition, from any branch of the United States armed forces.
- Pass a physical examination administered by a licensed physician that is consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act and that relates to the essential functions of the position.
- Pass a psychological evaluation administered by a licensed mental health professional that is consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act and that relates to the essential functions of the position.
- Possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license at the time of appointment.
- Upon appointment, successfully complete a prescribed course of instruction at the Tennessee Law Enforcement Academy or have successfully completed the equivalent of the prescribed course.
- Upon appointment, successfully complete a prescribed course of instruction in order to receive an EMR license from a state accredited organization, or have successfully completed the prescribed course.

Overview
This position has statewide and regional responsibilities in Area 1/ West Tennessee that provide support to all Tennessee State Parks, State Natural Areas, and State Forests.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Chief Ranger with safety and security policy and state law compliance for all Tennessee State Parks, State Natural Areas, and State Forests.
- Serve as a specialized instructor for law enforcement subjects to ensure all commissioned officers meet Peace Officer Standard and Training (POST) requirements.
- Supplement and provide regional training for specialized operations teams such as Fire, Medical, Search & Rescue, etc.
- Track class attendance and compliance to ensure rangers have met certification requirements for Emergency Medical.
- Responder (EMR) and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
- Assign and track equipment and tools and assist in managing training and supplies for the Ranger Program to ensure the program operates within budget and that required law enforcement and medical technology systems are applied accurately and in timely manner.
- Assist Chief Ranger with the administration of the Ranger Program in a regional and/or area capacity, specifically in Area 1/West TN.
- Assistant Chief Ranger reports to the Chief Ranger, may supervise others, and provides support to their assigned area.

TN Driver Standards
