What You'll Do
The Materials Requirements Planning (MRP) Manager is responsible for leading the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of material planning processes that support mission-critical manufacturing and operational objectives. Serves as the functional owner for MRP-related business processes in SAP, ensuring the effective integration of planning, procurement, inventory management, production scheduling, and supply chain operations.
The MRP Manager leads a team of planners and analysts while driving optimization of SAP planning capabilities, data governance, business processes, and system enhancements. Works cross-functionally with Supply Chain, Procurement, Manufacturing Operations, Engineering, Quality, Finance, and IT to ensure materials are available to support production schedules while maintaining inventory efficiency and data integrity.
Key Responsibilities
Materials Planning & Inventory Management
- Lead the development and execution of material requirements plans to support production and operational schedules.
- Manage inventory strategies including safety stock, reorder points, lead times, and planning parameters.
- Monitor and mitigate material shortages, excess inventory, and obsolescence risks.
- Establish and track key performance indicators related to inventory health, material availability, and schedule attainment.
SAP Functional Ownership & Business Systems Management
- Serve as the business process owner for modules of SAP responsible for managing Y-12 Manufacturing scope.
- Govern planning master data, including material masters, bills of material, lead times, planning strategies, and inventory parameters.
- Lead SAP configuration reviews, process improvements, testing, and deployment activities related to planning and inventory management.
- Partner with Information Technology and SAP support organizations to define business requirements, prioritize enhancements, and resolve system issues.
- Drive adoption of SAP best practices and standardization across planning and material management processes.
- Ensure data quality, system integrity, and compliance with organizational governance requirements.
- Support SAP upgrades, system implementations, process automation initiatives, and digital transformation efforts.
Cross-Functional Business Process Leadership
- Collaborate with Procurement, Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and Operations leadership to align material planning strategies with business objectives.
- Facilitate integrated planning processes and resolve cross-functional planning challenges.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions related to material shortages, planning inaccuracies, and inventory discrepancies.
- Support strategic sourcing, supplier performance management, and long-range capacity planning activities.
Continuous Improvement & Analytics
- Identify opportunities to improve planning effectiveness through process redesign, automation, and advanced analytics.
- Leverage SAP reporting and business intelligence tools to monitor performance and support decision making.
- Develop and maintain metrics, dashboards, and management reporting related to inventory, material availability, forecast accuracy, and operational performance.
- Champion Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement initiatives across supply chain and planning functions.
Leadership & Talent Development
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of material planners and analysts.
- Establish performance expectations, planning standards, and operational procedures.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Support workforce development efforts related to SAP planning capabilities and supply chain best practices.

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree: Minimum 7 years of relevant experience
- OR 15 or more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this posting
Preferred Job Requirements
- Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, Operations Management, Information Systems, or related field
- Significant experience in materials planning, supply chain management, production planning, or inventory management
- Experience with SAP
- Strong understanding of MRP, inventory management, procurement, and manufacturing operations
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams and cross-functional initiatives
- Experience supporting highly regulated or complex manufacturing environments
- SAP Materials Management (MM), Production Planning (PP), or Supply Chain Planning experience
- APICS/ASCM certifications (CPIM, CSCP)
- Experience leading ERP implementations, upgrades, or business transformation initiatives
- Knowledge of data analytics, process automation, and digital manufacturing concepts
