What You'll Do
The Data Scientist leverages data from local data lakes and other disparate data sources to generate automated data pipelines that feed data visualization tools and other downstream applications. In addition, the Data Scientist generates powerful data visualizations that enable 1) live broadcasting of hard-to-reach data, 2) curated stakeholder views, 3) trend identification, and 4) predictive analytics. Tools generated by the Data Scientist are leveraged by customers to steward sustainable processes, measure performance, identify efficiency opportunities, and drive data-based decisions. This role will also help build, influence, and enhance a data-driven culture at the site as well as champion efforts to simplify, standardize, and improve processes at multiple levels across organizations.
Responsibilities
- Automated Business Metrics: Develop, refine, and sustain data products curated for Production and Operations leadership that automates information exchange between Business Analysts and Integration Managers.
- Data Solution Support: Develop, refine, and sustain data products that support strategic initiatives across the Production and Operations organization.
- Data Integration and Expertise: Generate SQL- and Tableau-driven data pipelines from the Corporate Information Center (CIC) data warehouse, SQL Server tables, etc. for consumption by downstream data visualizations.
- Data Visualization: Develop powerful Tableau data visualizations for customer organizations while looking to standardize and consolidate visualizations where possible.
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Equip leadership with real-time data platforms and visualizations to enable informed decision-making at all organizational levels.
- Statistical Analysis: Perform exploratory and predictive statistical analysis utilizing various methods to identify trends, patterns, and insights relevant to strategic decision-making, as necessary.
- Collaboration and Solution Deployment: Collaborate with other data scientists, engineers, and subject matter experts to build and deploy data solutions that address business needs and contribute to achievement of strategic goals. Ensure data solutions are integrated into customer processes to fully realize value.
- Leadership: Build and enhance a data-driven culture at Y-12 by delivering timely solutions, coaching on data accessibility and tool usage. Influence organizations to simplify, standardize, and improve.

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree: Minimum 4 years of relevant experience.
- OR Master's degree: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
- OR PhD.
- Twelve or more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this posting.
- Willingness to access Y-12 Production areas as needed.
Preferred Job Requirements
- Educational background in Engineering, Business/Information Management, Statistics, Data Analysis/Science, or related field.
- Data and/or information systems related certifications.
- Experience writing SQL code and building data pipelines with data prep software.
- Knowledge of integrated work (i.e., maintenance) control processes at Y-12.
- Proficiency with Enterprise Resource Planning systems such as SAP or Oracle.
- Previous nuclear or manufacturing industry work experience.
- Ability to generate and provide high-level briefings to internal and external entities.
- Self-starting individual that can exercise sound judgement while dealing with competing priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex data insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to collaborate across groups and organizations to achieve departmental goals.
