What You'll Do
This position will perform tasks primarily in Reading, United Kingdom and will last a minimum of one year.
Serve as a liaison between the Consolidate Nuclear Security, LLC (CNS) and Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE), Nuclear Security Technologies. AWE’s mission is to design, develop, manufacture, and maintain the UK’s nuclear warheads for their Nation’s Continuous at Sea Deterrent (CASD) capability for the last 75 years. Secondarily AWE maintains the safety, security, and effectiveness of the United Kingdom’s nuclear deterrent; strengthens science, technology, and engineering capabilities while modernizing their national security infrastructure. AWE manages the development and deployment of the process and component technologies that support production of weapon components.
This role supports the development of manufacturing processes and strategies for components that are critical to meeting security requirements for the UK’s nuclear stockpile. The main focus of this position will be to support AWE’s uranium technology development for programmatic deliverables. These deliverables support enriched uranium (EU) and depleted uranium (DU) build programs primarily, with other Y-12 material support possible.
The Liaison Is Expected To Be a Fair Representative Of CNS Y-12 And As a Citizen Of The United States Of America, And The Collective Enterprise. Examples Of The Position’s Tasks Are Listed Below
- Provide Technical Oversight and Programmatic guidance to UK EU new build programs (EUMF, ATROPOS, etc.)
- Provide programmatic guidance and feedback to the Future Materials Campus (FMC) Programme Management Office.
- Support JOWOG interactions and develop future collaboration opportunities.
- Support definition and development of the EU Manufacturing System/Chemical Recovery PP&E.
- Assume the role of Intelligent Customer to Capital Projects and corresponding Delivery Partners on behalf of the H PRT.
- Present knowledge capture opportunities to the H PRT and Capital Projects.
- Aid manufacturing system development, based on operational experience.
- Identifying and sharing key Review Learn Improve (RLI) outcomes from Y12 programs.
- Provide timely and accurate information to CNS including the status of significant deliverables.
- Assist with the development of strategies, implementation plans, risk management, change control and status communications.
- Participate in the Planning Programming, Budgeting process as applicable.
- Facilitate the resolution of issues and participate in significant, high-level meetings on topics of critical interest to both AWE and Y-12.
- Facilitate communications with Y-12 subject matter experts (SME) for data collection.
- Provide guidance with assistance from Y-12 SMEs, without making CNS commitments.
- Travel as necessary to support meetings at other labs and sites.
- Support and assist information exchange between Y-12 and AWE.
- Provide context and intent behind AWE directives for programmatic decisions.

Minimum Job Requirements - Bachelor's degree: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
- OR Master's degree: Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience within uranium production facilities within the last 5 years of experience.
- Demonstrated experience of the lifecycle of uranium from raw material, purification, casting, and machining.
- The incumbent must
- be willing to serve in this off-site assignment in the United Kingdom for a minimum of one year (prefer two years).
- hold an active DOE Q clearance and be trained to handle and protect classified information
Preferred Job Requirements
- A BS in Engineering with 15 years nuclear manufacturing experience (E.G. Process Engineer, Shift Technical Advisor, Program Advisor,) at Y-12 is required; OR, a technical degree and graduate technical MS, with more than 5 years line or program management leadership experience (e.g., Program Manager, Production Support Manager, Director of Operations or Maintenance) at Y-12 is required.
A graduate degree in a technical field is desired and may substitute for up to two years of the required manufacturing support experience.
