The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Oak Ridge Office of Environmental Management (OREM) is now accepting applications for the Science Education and Internship Program (SEIP): Legal Fellow (Reference Code: DOE-OREM-SEIP-2026-LF).
This is a paid, 2-year fellowship opportunity for first- and second-year law students interested in environmental law, regulatory compliance, federal contracting, and real estate matters—contributing to one of the nation’s largest environmental cleanup and revitalization efforts at the Y‑12 National Security Complex and Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
What Fellows Will Do
Fellows will receive mentorship and hands-on experience learning alongside OREM Counsel, division directors, and subject matter experts in areas such as:
- Contract awards and legal review
- Regulatory compliance
- Environmental law
- Real estate matters
- Federal legal guidance and oversight
Fellows will apply their legal training to active, real-world federal projects that contribute to the modernization and transformation of critical national security and research sites.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have a minimum 3.0 GPA
- Be a currently enrolled first- or second-year law student at an accredited institution
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Background or coursework in contract, real estate, or environmental law
- Proactive approach to assignments
- Ability to meet deadlines
