Argonne is seeking a Human Resources (HR) Assistant to support the Advanced Energy Technologies (AET) directorate.
The HR Assistant, under minimal supervision and with a considerable degree of initiative, will provide administrative support while performing a wide range of administrative activities and tasks. This individual will ensure the HR administrative activities and tasks are performed in a timely manner and are often of a confidential or sensitive nature. The selected individual will handle complex assignments using independent judgment facilitating effective and efficient flow and processing of information and work associated with day-to-day operations as assigned.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Researching, compiling, and tracking, and analyzing data and information from multiple sources, preparing correspondence and reports.
Serves as a point of contact for AET’s student programs.
Support and process postdoctoral hire packages in Workday and manage a system for processing and tracking all postdocs’ actions, including extensions to completion.
Support division HR Representative, HR Generalist or HR Manager with various HR activities including, but not limited to, track and process all contingent work appointments, appointment extensions, terminations, move worker or supervisory changes, workday requisition clean up, and all student paperwork.
This individual will coordinate and send out new hire emails, maintain onboarding spreadsheet and termination process for the directorate including requesting gate passes, and organization charts.
Position Requirements
Knowledge of administrative support and office practices.
Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate with all levels of staff.
Ability to interact diplomatically and tactfully with a high level of discretion at all levels both within and outside the Laboratory.
Ability to think quickly when managing difficult situations.
Strong organizational and time management skills; including the ability to prioritize, organize and handle multiple-concurrent requests, needs and deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, while being detail oriented and using sound independent judgment to accomplish tasks.
Knowledge, skills, and experience using advanced features in editing documents, with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat.
Demonstrated experience in arranging and coordinating meetings.
Skill in the preparation of required HR documents, including typing, editing, filtering, tracking and, if applicable, converting documents to PDF.

This position requires an on-site/hybrid presence at the Argonne campus in Lemont, Illinois.
This position can be hired at one of two levels; the selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level (SA2 or SA3) dependent upon the depth and breadth of relevant knowledge and skills. The minimum requirements of the two levels are as follows:
SA2: High School and 4+ years’ experience, or equivalent. The expected pay range for this position is $20.78 - $32.41 per hour.
SA3: High School and 8+ years’ experience, or equivalent. The expected pay range for this position is $25.59 - $39.92.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Knowledge of Laboratory and Division policies, practices, and procedures is desirable.
Knowledge of Laboratory systems and have the ability to become fully proficient with Argonne business processing tools such as Workday, FAVOR, and XINK for business forms is desirable.
