What You'll Do
We are seeking an experienced SAP Payroll & Time and Labor Technical Lead to oversee the design, development, and support of payroll and time management solutions within our SAP ECC environment. This role will lead a small team of developers while serving as the primary liaison between IT and business stakeholders for payroll and time-related initiatives.The ideal candidate will bring deep functional and technical expertise in SAP Payroll and Time Management (PTL), including schema and rule configuration, and experience supporting complex payroll environments. This position is responsible for driving enhancements, maintaining system stability, and ensuring accurate and compliant payroll processing across a diverse workforce, including union populations with highly customized pay and time rules.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and support of SAP Payroll and Time & Labor solutions within SAP ECC
- Oversee and mentor a small team of developers, providing technical guidance and prioritization
- Act as the primary interface between IT and business stakeholders for payroll and time-related initiatives
- Configure and maintain payroll schemas, rules, wage types, and time evaluation processes
- Support payroll operations, including issue resolution, audits, and compliance requirements
- Analyze and implement enhancements to support evolving business and labor requirements
- Ensure system accuracy and reliability across complex payroll scenarios, including union populations
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate SAP Payroll/Time with other enterprise systems
- Develop and maintain documentation for configurations, processes, and support procedures
- Configure and support SAP Time Management components, including absences, attendances, work schedules, and time quote accruals
- Maintain and enhance time evaluation logic to ensure accurate processing of employee time and quota balances

Education
Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or a related discipline with at least 5 years of relevant experience; OR
- Master’s degree in the same fields with at least 3 years of relevant experience; OR
- Thirteen years of progressive education, training, and/or professional experience may be considered in lieu of formal degree requirements.
Experience
- Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience in Payroll / Time & Labor (PTL) systems
- Prior experience in a technical lead or team leadership role
- Demonstrated experience working directly with business stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver solutions
Preferred Job Requirements
SAP Payroll & Time Expertise:
- Strong experience with SAP ECC Payroll processing and Time Management
- Deep knowledge of payroll schemas, rules, and wage type configuration
- Experience working with Cross-Application Time Sheet (CATS) and time evaluation processes
- Hands-on experience configuring and support absences and attendances
- Experience designing and maintaining work schedules, including shift patterns and holiday calendars
- Proficiency in configuring and managing time quotas
- Proven ability to troubleshoot payroll and time calculation issues in complex environments
Union & Complex Pay Environments
- Experience supporting union payrolls with varying contracts, rules, and agreements
- Familiarity with highly customized time and pay rules, including shift differentials, overtime, and premiums
- Ability to translate complex labor agreements into system configurations
Technical & Development Skills
- Experience with ABAP debugging and collaboration with development teams
- Understanding of SAP data structures related to payroll and time (infotypes, clusters, etc.)
- Experience integrating SAP Payroll/Time with external systems is a plus
Leadership & Delivery
- Proven ability to lead and mentor a small team of developers or analysts
- Experience prioritizing and managing a mix of enhancement work, production support, and maintenance activities
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in a production-critical environment
Collaboration & Communication
- Ability to communicate complex payroll and time concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience working with HR, Payroll, and Labor Relations teams
- Strong documentation and knowledge transfer practices
