What You'll Do
- Provides construction site engineering resources and expertise during construction phases of projects to interpret designs, adjusts designs to meet site conditions, manages technical issues, performs field inspections, monitors technical submittals and configuration management, verifies installed quantities, supports construction supervision, and provides final technical approval of completed construction tasks to ensure construction conforms to design specifications.
- Provides technical/programmatic guidance on multiple and complex construction management tasks.
- Performs constructability reviews during design preparation and execution.
- Maintains direct relationship with the Construction Managers/Construction Superintendents, the responsible Project Managers (PM) to execute the scope of work, and STR’s to support the Subcontractor.
- Maintains records of installed quantities and completed construction work.
- Participates in obtaining any required permits/clearances, lockouts, Escort Agreements, and work authorizations prior to commencing work on site.
- Prepares purchase requisitions for materials and services.
- Prepare construction drawings and sketches.
- Prepare quantity takeoffs of field purchased material and equipment.
- Ensure zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others in the operational area.
- Develop a firm understanding of system and area scoping and drawings required for package development.
- Review and approve inspection test plans and coordinate reviews of subcontractor submittals.
- Reviews design documents, performs construction rough-in inspections/final inspections, observes and participates in Construction Acceptance Testing, documents electrical installation inspections in the Electrical Inspection Request System (EIRS), and submits the inspections to the ECAHJ.
- To be nominated as an Electrical Inspector, The Electrical Inspector will complete the required Continuing Education Credits every three years to remain an active inspector.
- The Electrical Inspector must verify, inspect, and document that all requirements of applicable Electrical Codes and of the engineering design have been met before systems or equipment are energized.
- Responsibilities are to ensure assigned Electrical based commodities comply with NFPA 70-2020.
- The Electrical Inspector will require a working knowledge of construction engineering practices.
- The inspection of electrical installation activities to support the Construction Projects
- Interface with the ECAHJ

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Science discipline: minimum 4 years of relevant experience. Typical experience ranging from 7 to 10 years.
- OR Master’s degree: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience. Typical experience ranging from 7 to 10 years.
- OR Twelve or more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this posting.
- In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related scientific major, 2 years job-related, and 1-year nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).
Preferred Job Requirements
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with construction craft or supervision in meeting program/project objectives.
- Experience in construction and technical inspection of electrical design in areas such as installation and testing of electrical systems, lighting systems, high voltage equipment, grounding, and cable pulling activities.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of the National Electrical Code and NFPA 70E.
- Must have effective oral and written communication skills and be able to interact effectively with all levels of personnel and management.
- The candidate must have above average organizational skills.
- Knowledge of single or multi-discipline construction operations and processes is required.
- Must have knowledge with the initiation and processing of Construction Inspection Packaging.
- Must meet medical requirements to wear respirator and work in hazard-designated areas.
- Current certification as a National Electric Code Inspector and a working knowledge of current design codes and standards, such as NFPA 70-2020.
- Certification must be ICC 'Commercial' or IAEI 'General' and provide a copy of the certification.
- Knowledge and experience of DOE, DOD, and/or commercial nuclear construction projects is required.
- Knowledge of environmental compliance standards required on NNSA/DOE projects.
- Familiarity with nuclear quality and commercial practice standards is beneficial.
- Recent experience as an Electrical Field Engineer.
- Experience in reviewing field drawings/plans of different disciplines, including P&IDs.
- Knowledge of organized Construction Labor and Building Trades is desired.
- Working knowledge of large-scale nuclear construction projects and ASME NQA-1 requirements.
- International Code Council (ICC) Electrical Inspector Certification or equivalent.
- Intermediate to advanced experience in field engineering activities of DOE and non-reactor nuclear facility EPC projects.
- Experience in project management within the nuclear sector.
- Familiarity with advanced electrical inspection techniques.
- Knowledge of project scheduling software.
