What You'll Do
- Supervise S&IH staff by planning, organizing, and directing day-to-day activities to meet Y-12 program goals and schedules.
- Assign staff based on job-specific skill requirements.
- Ensure that personnel are trained and qualified to perform assigned functions and are given proper instructions to perform work in a safe and efficient manner.
- Establish goals and expectations, and prioritize and integrate work within the group.
- Coordinate and direct assignments so that schedules are met and required standards of quality are maintained.
- Assign work in accordance with available resources and plant priorities.
- Provide assistance regarding problem-solving and assist in establishing policy in areas of occupational safety and industrial hygiene.
- Provide S&IH consultation, reviews, and interpretation assistance to all levels of Y-12 organizations regarding implementation of DOE, OSHA, ACGIH, ANSI, and Y-12 S&IH standards.
- Interface with Y-12 staff, management, NNSA, and DNFSB.
- Ensure support to line organizations for hazard analysis for work tasks, plans, and procedures to ensure proper implementation of safety and industrial hygiene policies, standards, and procedural requirements.
- Interface with Y-12 program and division managers, directors, and associated staff relating to safety performance and recommendations for improvement.
- Provide leadership in maintaining safe-working conditions and be proactive in preventing injuries, and other chemical and hazardous exposures to the workforce.
- Ensure the principles for Integrated Safety Management (ISM) are used for all activities.
- Ensure strict application of regulations for security and plant protection.
- Identify risks to personnel, facility safety, and mission viability; ensure implementation of prevention and mitigation measures to eliminate or reduce the risks and potential consequences.
- Handle all personnel matters associated with direct reports. Interview; hire or make hiring recommendations; evaluate performance; coach, counsel, reward, and discipline employees, as appropriate; and train and develop staff.
- Handle employee development tasks including definition of skills and development training needs.
- Set standards and monitor performance of employees including development plans and maintenance of critical skills.
- Provide leadership and personal interaction to promote positive work environment and encourage individual involvement.
- Conduct employee meetings and monitor timekeeping and accountable absences.

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience. Safety and/or industrial hygiene field experience in industrial operations, maintenance, and/or construction commensurate with career level.
- OR Thirteen or more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this posting.
Preferred Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in safety, industrial hygiene, or related science or engineering discipline, advanced degree a plus.
- 3-5 years of supervisory or demonstrated leadership experience.
- Prior work experience at a U.S. Department of Energy nuclear facility.
- Certification as a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred for senior position.
- Experience with job hazard analysis and work control, chemical management, and respiratory protection.
- Demonstrates requisite competency in a variety of computer programs, such as Microsoft Office Suite products (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and safety and industrial hygiene data management systems.
- Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication, listening, and presentation skills.
- Team oriented, with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of personnel (i.e., line employees through senior management).
