Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a
Mgr, Waste Handling and join our team located in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will have working knowledge of waste handling and radioactive materials safe handling procedures. Provide technical and operational direction to receiving, processing, and emplacing activities for nuclear waste assuring compliance with government and company waste handling and safety requirements and procedures. Evaluate work load, facilitate status, equipment status, staffing, and various shipment schedules to establish priorities, schedules, and work assignments. Mentor, monitor, and provide feedback for personnel development or correction. Knowledge of the WIPP bargaining unit agreement or experience working with a collective bargaining unit. Knowledge of related DOE Orders. Ability to communicate effectively in writing for preparation of technical documents and communications. Possess the communication and negotiation skills for interfacing with other department and oversight personnel. Must be able to wear and maintain qualifications of all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including Respiratory Protection equipment.
Minimum Requirements

- Bachelor's degree with fourteen (14) years relevant experience, or
- Associate's degree with eighteen (18) years of relevant experience, or
- High School Diploma or Equivalency with twenty-two (22) years of relevant experience is required.
- Five (5) years of management experience is required.
Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
- This position is included in the Training Implementation Matrix (TIM) which defines requirements for personnel selection, training, qualification and certification requirements at DOE Nuclear Facilities. Individuals applying to TIM positions will be evaluated in accordance with DOE O 426.2A, and may need to provide additional information and/or receive concurrence from the DOE for placement. See DOE O 426.2A for additional information.
Preferred Requirements
- Familiarity with DOE O 422.1, Conduct of Operations, DOE O 232.2, Occurrence Reporting, 10 CFR 830 Safety Management, Safety Basis Requirements, Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS) and, WIPP Safety Basis/Technical Safety Requirements is preferred.
- Ten (10) years of Nuclear Plant operating experience is desired.
- Previous WIPP Project experience is a plus.

Exempt grade level(s) 36-38. Salary range: $134,030 to $237,594 per year -- the specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
