What You'll Do
The Y-12 Security Systems Department provides life-cycle management of all physical security systems for classified matter and special nuclear material. The goal of the department is to ensure continued operability of the Y-12 security systems and continuously seek innovative solutions to improve the reliability and efficiency of the systems.
Y-12 Security Systems department researches, develops, designs, and specifies tests of electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. Designs consensus code and standard compliant electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial and industrial purposes. Advises management on electrical operational and technical problems. The successful candidate will function in a leadership role as a System Engineer within Y-12 Security Systems Department and using engineering principles is responsible for the design, configuration management, performance assurance, and compliance of each assigned security system.
The System Engineer will ensure proper technician and system operator training; operational readiness; performance testing; preventive and corrective maintenance execution; self-assessment programs; and upgrade or system upgrade/replacement recommendations. To support management of the assigned systems, the incumbent will establish and monitor metrics to track and trend performance indicators and will execute appropriate assessments to demonstrate system readiness.
The successful bidder will be on call to ensure that around-the-clock technical support is provided for assigned systems, off normal events are reviewed/resolved, and corrective actions to maintain optimum operability are initiated. This position may serve in a backup capacity for other security system engineers. This position must interface with multiple organizations to include the NNSA Production Office, Physical Security, Vulnerability Assessment, Facility, Infrastructure & Services, Engineering, Cyber Security, Project Management, and Production. As such, good communication skills are desired. Field work may include spending significant time in the Material Access Areas.

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering/science/information technology discipline: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
- OR Master's degree in engineering/science/information technology discipline
Preferred Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering is preferred
- Experience in designing and troubleshooting electrical and/or mechanical systems
- Experience and training in project management, configuration management, knowledge of the Y-12 facility and the process associated with the plant, as well as knowledge of the CNS Y-12 and NNSA/DOE security procedures/regulations is desired
- Must be proactive and show perseverance to follow through to complete activities
- Good written and oral communication skills
