Job Title: Iron Worker / Rigger
What You'll Do
Rigs and moves extremely heavy equipment, machinery, construction materials, structural steel and fragile apparatus. Sets up and rigs hoisting structures or equipment for erecting or dismantling heavy bulky machines, equipment or other objects. Uses rollers, forklifts, chain blocks and block and tackle using appropriate chains, ropes, or cables to move or lift heavy loads safely.
May splice ropes or steel cable by hand. Loads and properly secures objects on transport equipment. Fabricates, erects and assembles structural steel. Works with both mobile and fixed cranes. Involves strenuous physical exertion and activities associated with material or equipment movement.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Requires trade school or apprenticeship training with five years’ experience in rigging practices and erection of structural steel.
- Must be able to wear a respirator and work in a MAA area.
- Must be able to perform at the strenuous physical level required of this classification.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy clearance is required. Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10 CFR 709.
- In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A: (i.e., High School diploma; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).
Preferred Job Requirements
- A thorough knowledge of stress, strain and strengths of cables, ropes, shackles, etc. is required.
- Must be able to receive and perform assignments from written instructions, elementary or detailed blueprints, manufacturer's instructions, or oral instruction.
- Must be familiar with operational technicalities of forklifts and cranes.
- Strong understanding of business process integration within SAP.
- Strong background, ensuring that materials meet regulatory, safety, and quality standards.
- Experience collaborating with stakeholders to improve material workflows and system efficiency.
- Experience with fabrication, modification, and design of lifting fixtures and assemblies.
- Experience reading and interpreting technical blueprints, schematics, and diagrams with accuracy.
