Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL), a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) national laboratory managed by Battelle Savannah River Alliance, seeks a talented and creative
Multimedia Photographer to elevate its visual storytelling initiatives. Combining expertise in photography and videography, this role is ideal for a professional who excels at capturing meaningful moments, crafting cinematic visuals, and creating compelling narratives.
In this role, you will take the lead in producing high-quality media that brings SRNL’s groundbreaking work to life—whether through still photos documenting laboratory breakthroughs or video content tailored for diverse audiences. Your contributions will amplify SRNL’s mission in vital areas such as national security, environmental stewardship, and energy resilience, reaching stakeholders across websites, social media, internal communications, and more.
Supported by a collaborative team, you will work closely with scientists, engineers, and leadership to translate complex technical concepts into visually engaging stories. From fieldwork to events to creative campaigns, your media will spotlight the innovation and impact driving SRNL’s mission. This role presents an exciting opportunity to advance your career while shaping the visual identity of one of the nation’s leading research institutions. The position reports directly to the Senior Manager for Internal Communications under the Office of Institutional Planning and Communications.
Responsibilities
Media Production
- Plan, produce, and deliver high-quality photography and video content that highlights SRNL’s people, research, and activities.
- Capture still images and video of laboratory equipment, field sites, employee portraits, and events for diverse communication platforms.
- Create dynamic video content, including research showcases, training materials, event documentation, and promotional storytelling.
- Operate professional-grade equipment to produce striking visuals for internal and external audiences.
Pre- and Post-Production
- Develop storyboards, shot lists, and production schedules in collaboration with external and internal communication leads.
- Set up and operate cameras, lighting, and audio equipment for studio and on-location shoots.
- Edit and enhance photos and videos using professional tools (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Lightroom, After Effects).
- Apply color correction, sound design, motion graphics, and titling to deliver polished final products aligned with SRNL branding.
Collaboration & Event Coverage
- Partner with scientists and leadership to translate technical topics into engaging visual narratives.
- Provide photography and videography support for key events, meetings, outreach activities, and press engagements.
- Deliver media under tight deadlines for high-priority needs, such as time-sensitive announcements.
Asset Management
- Maintain and organize multimedia assets in a secure Digital Asset Management (DAM) system.
- Recommend upgrades and ensure equipment, including cameras and lighting, meets current industry standards.
Compliance & Innovation
- Adhere to DOE security, classification, and accessibility requirements.
- Explore emerging tools like drones, motion graphics, and 360-degree video to elevate SRNL media efforts.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Photography, Videography, Visual/Digital Storytelling, or 10+ years of equivalent experience.
- Experience: 10+ years of professional experience in photography and videography, with a portfolio demonstrating expertise in technical and creative visual storytelling.
- Technical Proficiency: Expertise in DSLR/mirrorless cameras, video production equipment, and Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Lightroom).
- Photography & Videography Skills: Experienced in still photography, cinematic video production, lighting setups, and framing techniques.
- Time Management: Strong ability to manage deadlines, logistics, and workflows independently in fast-paced environments.
- Security Clearance: U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a DOE Q-level security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with scientific or technical imaging at federal agencies is preferred with preference given to DOE and the National Laboratory System.
- FAA Part 107 drone certification and advanced knowledge of drone-based photography/videography.
- Familiarity with RAW/LOG recording formats, frame rates, and color grading workflows.
- Experience optimizing visual media for social media platforms and search engine strategies.
- Creative skills in motion graphics, animations, or 360-degree video content.
