What You'll Do
Work closely with the Instructional Design Supervisor within the Oak Ridge Enhanced Technology and Training Center (ORETTC) organization in support of Consolidated Nuclear Security, LLC, National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA). The Instructional Designer (ID) supports NNSA across domestic and international mission areas. The ID develops, implements, and evaluates training across a variety of learning environments. Designs, develops, and deploys virtual and face-to-face instruction using adult learning (andragogy) principles and instructional design strategies within the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) model. Works with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to design learning solutions that emphasize engagement and appropriate instructional technologies. Performs needs assessments and analyses to identify performance gaps and evaluates the effectiveness of training to support continuous improvement.
What You Can Expect
- Coordinate and support training activities, including the development of curriculum for adult learners, coordination of exhibits and workshops, development and update of in-person and virtual learning products, and all aspects of training delivery.
- Provide instructional design expertise and assistance to teams supporting Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation (DNN) programs including preparation of training content, support to training event, development of objectives and implementation of the activities
- Support the development of innovative adult learning techniques to include e-learning and interactive platforms such as virtual and augmented reality applications.
- Support the development and maintenance of project work plans for sponsored projects that include prioritization of activities, lifecycle schedule, funding, activities schedule, milestones, and challenges to implementation.
- Attend internal, NNSA, and interagency meetings as required.

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
- OR Master's degree: Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.
- OR Ten or more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this posting.
- Requires a proven ability as an instructional designer and training expert. This position requires the ability to manage complex tasks simultaneously and the flexibility and adaptability to quickly shift from one task to another as priorities dictate. Must have good oral and written communication skills and the ability to interface effectively with a variety of customers, including sponsors, program managers, technical specialists, and senior managers.
Preferred Job Requirements
- Master’s degree in instructional design or technology
- Instructional Design Certificate
- Working knowledge of Kirkpatrick’s levels of evaluation
- Significant operational and technical experience with Y-12 training operations
