What You'll Do
Serves as the Senior Chemical Technical Authority for UPF processes. Provides leadership, guidance, and technical direction to engineering staff during the Commissioning and First Use to begin normal operations. Integrates and coordinates inputs from multiple technical disciplines; resolving conflicts, when necessary. Provides engineering judgement for changes to the design or technical basis as hazardous materials are introduced into the processes. Serve as a mentor and internal technical consultant.
Chemical engineering support includes participation in designs ranging from scope definition, feasibility and conceptual studies, and preliminary/detailed designs. Tasks may include review, evaluation and oversight of Engineering deliverables (process testing, process design information, analyses and calculations). Will also include interpreting, preparing, reviewing and/or summarizing various reports and data. Promoting and leading the advanced understanding and application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the engineering field. May represent Y-12 in discussing complex issues with National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) and Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (DNFSB).

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from an EAC/ABET accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET. Requires a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience.
- In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related scientific major 2 years job-related, and 1-year nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative). DOE 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. Preferred Job Requirements
- Bachelors Degree (or higher) in Chemical Engineering
- Over 15 years of progressive engineering experience in Uranium chemical processing
- Experience with Y-12 facilities, procedures, and programs
- Demonstrated skill in effective planning, writing, organization, communication, schedule compliance, and management of technical issues
