What You'll Do
Provide oversight and direction to ensure control and accountability of nuclear materials to include, but not limited to: proper safeguarding and storage; process monitoring within the material balance area (MBA); transfer/receipt in and out of the MBA; determination of need for and proper application of tamper indicating devices; physical inventories, including cleanup operation; recommendation of data access capabilities in DYMCAS; assessments/audits; procedures and plans, including those for Operations; standing orders involving accountable nuclear materials in assigned MBA; and release of MBA to resume production activities upon completion of inventory activities and item reconciliation.
Provide technical leadership and direction to ensure control and accountability of nuclear materials to include, but not limited to; identify, evaluate, and compile detailed technical information relating to the mission and processes of the MBA for accountable material; interface with the operations management of the facility when accountable nuclear materials are involved; troubleshoot and identify resolutions related to accountable nuclear materials; inventory difference investigations, calculations, and resolution; development of corrective actions for any identified deficiencies in assigned MBA; participate in tracking/trending of inventory differences; participate in management critiques of MBA-related issues involving accountable nuclear materials; recommend measurement and measurement control requirements; ensure measurement control goals are met in the MBA by reviewing measurement device performance; ensure only approved sampling and measurement methods are used and coordinate appropriate duplicate samples for analysis when needed; develop and/or maintain process flow charts to depict current operations and measurements.
Serve as the primary interface with operations; subject matter expert for accountable nuclear materials in the assigned MBA; interface with Industrial Hygiene, Criticality Safety, Rad Con, etc., in issues related to accountable nuclear materials; liaison to communicate lessons learned; participate in investigations when assigned MBA is involved in an incident of security concern; participate in operation safety boards; pre-job briefings, new or restart activities, processing changes when related to accountable nuclear materials; NMC&A representative for the development of security requirements documents when required; and alternate MBA Custodian within Y-12; provide guidance/expertise in NMC&A material surveillance requirements; and provide oversight and technical advice for the implementation of material surveillance.

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree: Minimum 4 years of relevant experience. Typical experience ranging from 7 to 10 years
- OR, a Master’s degree: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
- Or, a PhD
- Twelve or more years of relevant education, training, and/or progressive experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this posting
- Experience/familiarity with Y-12 nuclear operations, equipment, DYMCAS, handling/storage/processing of accountable nuclear materials, nuclear criticality safety principles, and TID Program is required.
- Knowledge and experience in data entry into SAP ME is required
Preferred Job Requirements
- Y-12 operations/production supervisory experience is highly desirable
- Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to interface effectively with various clients (production and support organizations)
- Requires ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
