The Leadership Computing Division at Argonne National Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated Postbaccalaureate Appointee to support cybersecurity planning, execution, and tracking efforts that advance the ALCF’s mission. This role is designed for recent bachelor's degree graduates interested in developing hands-on experience in cybersecurity for high-performance computing (HPC) and advanced research environments. The specific scope of work may include:
Responsibilities
- Assist in planning, tracking, and coordinating the implementation of cybersecurity controls for new systems and services, ensuring alignment with ALCF’s operational requirements and research goals.
- Collaborate with Argonne cybersecurity staff to address unique challenges in applying cybersecurity policies to HPC and advanced research cyberinfrastructure.
- Support the development and maintenance of documentation, workflows, and processes related to cybersecurity control implementation, ensuring clarity and alignment with organizational goals.
- Contribute to the evaluation and improvement of existing cybersecurity processes, recommending changes to streamline deployments and enhance compliance with security requirements.
- Participate in cross-functional initiatives to ensure cybersecurity considerations are integrated into system design, deployment, and operational workflows.
- Provide technical and organizational support for cybersecurity-related projects, including risk assessments, control testing, and compliance tracking.
- Develop a foundational understanding of ALCF’s CI/CD processes and assist in implementing security controls where appropriate, in collaboration with existing staff.
- Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including scientists, engineers, and cybersecurity professionals, to ensure smooth execution of cybersecurity initiatives.
Position Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Recently completed a bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity, computer science, information technology, or a related field, with demonstrated ability to apply academic knowledge to real-world technical challenges.
- Foundational knowledge of cybersecurity principles, including network security, systems security, and risk management.
- Experience with project management or coordination, including the ability to track progress, manage timelines, and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize work, manage multiple tasks or deadlines, and follow through independently.
- Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively, contributing effectively to team-based projects while taking ownership of individual responsibilities.
- Strong written and/or oral communication skills, including the ability to clearly document work, explain technical concepts, and proactively communicate progress or issues.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with cybersecurity tools, processes, or frameworks, such as vulnerability management, security controls implementation, or compliance tracking.
- Familiarity with high-performance computing (HPC) environments or research cyberinfrastructure.
- Experience with CI/CD workflows or software development processes, particularly as they relate to implementing security controls.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity standards or frameworks, such as NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF) or ISO 27001.
- Experience working in roles that require communication and collaboration across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
