What You'll Do
The Alarm Systems Department is established to deploy alarm monitoring and access control solutions that meet performance requirements necessary to protect critical site operations. The department establishes appropriate configuration management, maintenance, and testing processes to ensure the systems continually perform. The department has cradle to grave responsibilities for complex alarm management and access control systems, including life-cycle management and process improvement upgrades. The goal of the department is to ensure continued operability of the Y-12 security systems and continuously seeking innovative solutions to improve the reliability and efficiency of the systems, while minimizing down-time. The department ensures the protective systems meet the performance requirements defined in the Y-12 Safeguards and Security Plan and applicable government directives.
System Engineers within the Alarm Systems department provide technical, database, hardware and network support as needed. Duties include: administration and management of multiple operating systems to include Windows, Linux, and OpenVMS. Support new and existing software applications by way of requirements analysis, planning, designing, testing, implementation, documentation / creation of end-user training, upgrades and maintenance. Work often includes coordinating and review of potential changes to the systems with outside organizations including engineering, maintenance, protective force, infrastructure and others. The successful bidder will be on call (part of a group rotation team) to ensure that around-the-clock technical support is provided for critical elements of assigned systems, off-normal events are reviewed/resolved, and corrective actions to maintain operability are initiated.

Minimum Job Requirements
- EP LADDER Education Requirements: ABET
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering/Physical Science/Information Technology from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET AND 4 years of relevant experience,
- OR associate’s degree in Engineering /Physical science with 6 or more years of progressive, relevant education and operations work experience
- OR MS in Engineering /Physical science and 2 years of relevant experience
- OR PhD in Engineering /Physical science GPA
- There is a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) requirement up to 4 years post-graduation at time of offer and confirmed by transcript. Beyond four years from graduation, engineering experience will supersede GPA as a requirement for hire.
- 3.0/4.0 minimum cumulative GPA for Bachelor degree
- 3.3 minimum cumulative GPA for Master degree
- 3.5 minimum cumulative GPA for PhDBachelor's degree with 4 or more years of progressive, relevant education and operations work experience
Preferred Job Requirements
- Knowledge and understanding of physical security principles and computer information systems. Ability to provide solutions to a variety of technical problems of wide scope and complexity. PC / Server management experience will be considered. Any of the following certifications would be preferred: Microsoft Windows Server, Linux Server, OpenVMS, Cisco, Database Administration or other technical certifications. Experience and training in configuration management, systems engineering, cyber security, network management, and assessments is desired. The highest consideration will be given to individuals with experience in software development (such as C#, .NET, and HTML)
- Experience with any of: Oracle Database Management (DBA), Software development (C# Programming), PowerShell, Linux shell, SQL query language, video systems, Splunk, network management, and/or Microsoft Server management/configuration is a plus (not required)
- Knowledge of the Y-12 facility and the process associated with the plant, as well as knowledge of the CNS Y-12 and NNSA/DOE security procedures/regulations is desired
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills are required
- Requires an understanding and broad application of information technologies and general knowledge of security systems is a plus
- Broad understanding and application of software development is required
