In collaboration with researchers in data compression and custom circuit design at Argonne National Laboratory, we will conduct research on hardware-based adaptive data compression.
The focus of this collaborative research will be on methods to adaptively provide suitable data compression algorithms for various inputs, techniques to dynamically reconstruct these algorithms on hardware, and approaches to operate data compression with low overhead on pipelined custom circuits.
We will evaluate the performance of this integrated adaptive data compression hardware by assessing compression ratios for various data types, evaluating circuit area and power consumption, measuring throughput and overhead, and conducting evaluations using benchmark applications. Additionally, we will examine and study the applicability of this technology to real-world, large-scale systems and networks and the resulting performance improvements.
