Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with fire protection system expertise to support the design, analysis, and maintenance of critical safety systems across INL facilities. This role ensures compliance with NFPA, DOE, and INL standards while contributing to operational reliability and safety. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off. In this role, you’ll design and manage the life cycle of fire protection systems, mentor team members, and ensure compliance with NFPA and DOE standards—all while working in a world-class research environment. Key Responsibilities: - Perform fire protection system design, configuration management, and maintenance basis, including suppression, detection, and alarm systems. - Conduct system walkdowns, evaluate mechanical components, and ensure alignment with engineering drawings. - Review and approve contractor drawings and equipment submittals for fire protection systems. - Ensure compliance with NFPA, International Building and Fire Codes, DOE standards, and local regulations. - Maintain high-quality documentation and records for inspections, testing, and maintenance activities. - Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and mentor junior engineers on configuration management and drawing processes and best practices.
