The expected hiring range for this position is:
$31.13-$40.24.

About the role:
Fermilab’s Accelerator Division (AD) is seeking a Senior Fluids Technician to be involved in the support of active accelerators and in the development of future high-intensity physics machines. As a member of the Mechanical Support Department, the successful candidate will work with engineers, designers, technicians, and scientists to maintain existing fluid systems and build parts and assemblies of new fluids systems. The successful candidate will install, assemble, operate and maintain systems and their components such as pumps, piping, valves and instrumentation for water, fluid and compressed gas systems at pressures up to 200-psig. The successful candidate will also perform ESH&Q duties, waste disposal, and radiological surveys.
What your day-to-day as a Senior Fluids Technician at Fermilab will look like:
- You will install, assemble, operate and maintain fluid systems and their components such as pumps, piping, valves and instrumentation for water, fluid, and compressed gas systems at pressures up to 200-psig, based on drawings, piping diagrams, and sketches as instructed.
- You will assist in construction and assembly of support equipment.
- You will prepare and test equipment for operation.
- You will generate or assists in generating Hazard Analyses for work requiring such.
- You will conduct periodic safety inspections of area of assignment.
- You will assist with the identification, packaging, control, and disposal of radioactive waste.
- You will procure and maintain inventories of small parts, supplies, materials, and equipment.
- You will assist in the implementation of design of equipment and systems and drive quality in all job aspects.
- You may act as crew leader for assigned tasks during the lab accelerator’s extended maintenance period (summer shutdown).
Skills and Attributes for Success:
- Must be proficient in assembling systems using piping diagrams, sketches and verbal instructions.
- Must be proficient with the safe use of hand-held power tools and hand tools.
- Must be proficient in working in a Windows PC environment, and with MS Word and Excel applications.
- Ability to work independently following general or detailed verbal or written instructions is required.
- Ability to work mandatory overtime and perform shift work as needed is required.
- Must have good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must show demonstrated ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
- Must show demonstrated ability to achieve team leadership responsibilities.
- Forklift qualifications are preferred.
- Overhead crane qualifications and rigging experience are preferred.
- Experience with machining tools is preferred.
- Experience with oxy-acetylene brazing is preferred.
- Electrical-electronic experience is preferred.
- Responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, safety and health regulations, Laboratory policies, procedures and practices pertinent to this position.
