Job Description
Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is seeking to hire a Group Manager for the SRNL Packaging and Transportation Services (P&TS) organization. The selected candidate will be responsible for overseeing every aspect of packaging and transportation including— implementing packaging and transportations programs and initiatives, scheduling and coordinating material shipments, and applying auditing techniques and processes. This role involves ensuring compliance with all relevant Federal regulations, including Department of Transportation (DOT) and Department of Energy (DOE) requirements , fostering a culture of safety and environmental stewardship, and leading a team of Hazardous Materials Transportation Representatives (HMTRs).
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Packaging and Transportation (P&T) programs, policies, and procedures to comply with regulatory requirements and company standards.
- Oversee and manage Packaging and Transportation audits, inspections, and assessments to identify potential risks and ensure adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, DOE requirements, and best practices.
- Lead and mentor a team of HMTR professionals, providing direction, support, and performance feedback.
- Collaborate with various departments to integrate packaging and transportation considerations into business operations and decision-making processes.
- Monitor and analyze packaging and transportation performance metrics and trends and develop strategies for continuous improvement.
- Ensure timely reporting and communication of packaging and transportation incidents, near-misses, and corrective actions to relevant stakeholders.
- Stay current with federal, state, and local DOT regulations and industry standards, and communicate changes to the organization.
- Coordinate and deliver packaging and transportation training programs to employees at all levels, ensuring awareness and understanding of P&T policies and procedures.
- Manage specialized programs for classified and nuclear materials and ensure ALARA principles guide radioactive transport to ensure compliance with DOE, DOT, NRC, and international shipping standards.
- Promote a culture of safety, sustainability, and health through proactive engagement and education initiatives.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for external regulatory agencies, contractors, and other stakeholders regarding environmental matters.
- Familiarity with import/export requirements for nuclear, sensitive, and non-nuclear materials
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, physical sciences, or equivalent technical experience and 5 years of nuclear industry experience
- Associate’s degree in business, applied science, or technical experience in a related field and 8+ years of nuclear industry experience
- In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations, standards, and best practices.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to develop and implement strategic plans for environmental programs.
- For ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is Legally Required
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in environmental management or serving in a lead role preferred.
- Experience working in a National Laboratory
- Active DOE Clearance
