Job Description
Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is seeking a Safety & Health Division Director who will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining safety and health programs that comply with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as DOE requirements. This key leadership role involves fostering a culture of safety, health, and wellness across the laboratory, supporting world-class research and operations while ensuring compliance and continuous improvement. This position reports directly to the ESH&Q Director.

We are seeking a highly qualified Safety and Health Director to lead and manage our comprehensive safety and health programs.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive safety and health program that meets or exceeds DOE regulations, standards, and guidelines.
- Lead and supervise a team of safety and health professionals, providing direction, support, and mentorship.
- Responsibilities include oversight of Radiological Protection, Radiological Engineering, Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene, and Chemical Hygiene departments.
- Collaborate with laboratory leadership, research staff, and other departments to integrate safety and health considerations into all aspects of laboratory operations.
- Monitor and analyze safety and health performance metrics and develop strategies for continuous improvement.
- Ensure timely reporting and investigation of incidents, accidents, and near-misses, and oversee the implementation of corrective and preventive measures.
- Stay current with DOE regulations, industry standards, and best practices in safety and health, and communicate updates to the organization.
- Promote a culture of safety, health, and wellness through proactive engagement, communication, and education initiatives.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in safety and health management, with a proven track record in a leadership role, preferably within a research or laboratory environment.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in developing and implementing strategic plans for safety and health programs.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is legally required
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree and 8 years of experience is preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of DOE safety and health regulations, standards, and best practices preferred.
- Certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or equivalent is preferred.
