What You'll Do
- Performs materials management functions associated with the preparation of bills of material and/or Field Material Requests (FMR), performs material takeoffs, requisitioning, procurement, expediting, receipt and staging/storage of construction materials and equipment, as well as handling of associated material submittals and documentation. Materials include items of construction, consumables, tools, bulks and equipment. Position requires a self-starter with ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Provide central focus point for coordination of construction materials and equipment on assigned projects. Establish and maintain working relationships with Field Engineering, Craft Supervision, Estimating, Project Engineering, Procurement, and Suppliers. Assists Superintendents in material control and documentation after release of material from Supply Chain Management (SCM). Develop/create item identifiers for all acquisition level materials within the Master materials catalog to include Commecial Grade Dedication, and Nuclear Quality Assurance.
- Work with Field Engineer (FE) or Subcontract Technical Representative (STR) during the planning stage of project to identify long lead procurement items.
- Assist in development of a Material Assignment Schedule (MAS) for identification, takeoff, requisitioning, procurement, expediting, and maintaining status of all materials, equipment, consumables, etc. required for project. Obtains a Purchase Card for procuring allowed items.
- Interface with Design/Field Engineering on material specification questions and developes Statements of Work for services, commodities and equipment.
- Work with STR or FE to obtain approval of material substitutions from Design/Engineering. Interface with Estimating and Construction personnel on level of detail required for material takeoffs. Perform material takeoffs and prepare Bills of Materials from engineering documents when required. Interface with the STR or FE and Craft Supervision to identify need dates for materials. Perform STR duties for service and equipment subcontracts.
- Ensures requisitions and purchase orders are approved in timeframe to support field needs. Assist in identifying, receiving, processing required vendor submittals related to materials and equipment in a timely manner to support project needs and requirements. Interface with expediters and buyers to identify critical materials and obtain updated delivery information. Interface with receiving to ensure that material clears quickly when received and delivered to the appropriate site location. Assist Superintendents with, and insures that materials and equipment are properly stored. Interface with STR or FE to ensure that any equipment requiring preventative maintenance during construction is serviced and records kept through turnover and acceptance by operations. Assist project in disposition of surplus project materials (transfer to other project, Swap Shop, return to vendor for credit, excess, etc.) Interface with STR or FE to ensure that quality control inspections are performed, as required, for materials such as safety class or safety significant items. Provide status of all project materials to the FE, Scheduler, Craft Supervision, and others as applicable.

- Applicants with high school diplomas may be considered on an exceptional basis if they have 8 or more years of relevant experience. Typically, each year of college education is equal to two years of experience.

- Candidates must have relevant experience in at least one major field in construction, e.g., structural/architectural, mechanical or electrical with demonstrated experience in the takeoff, requisitioning, expediting and control of construction materials and consumables. A more extensive general knowledge of construction materials, staging/storage and installation techniques used by all of the various building trades is an asset.
- Requires a minimum of four years’ experience in construction or similar work in plant maintenance, with at least two years related experience in material takeoff, preparation of Bills of Material, requisitioning, expediting and material control. An Associate or Bachelor Degree in business, construction, engineering/technology or related field is preferred. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to interact effectively with vendors and all levels of personnel and management.
