Essential Job Duties
Location: Amarillo, Texas
Fights fires, performs rescues and mitigates hazardous material incidents as directed by Fire Officer(s). Properly utilizes fire department equipment in emergencies and performs assigned inspection of equipment and facilities.
- Performs emergency response to fire, hazardous materials and medical calls on and off the plant site as directed, including management of trauma and medical patients while interfacing treatment with plant medical facility and/or area hospitals.
- Inventories, restocks and performs maintenance on equipment as assigned.
- Performs thorough inspections of equipment and facilities as assigned. Reports conditions to supervisor.
- Performs authorized repairs and reconditioning of equipment as directed.
- Keeps accurate and neat records as assigned.
- Attends scheduled off-plant training as required.
- Attends and successfully completes training classes as determined by the Training & Development Technologies Department, through General Employee Training (Reference DOE Order 426.2) and Management.
- Understands worker’s right to stop work when they feel their own or another’s personal safety is jeopardized.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills And Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of the rules, regulations and other instructions governing the efficient duties of a firefighter.
- Knowledge of the nomenclature and purpose of all Fire Department equipment and the safe and efficient use of such equipment.
- Knowledge of the location of all alarm panels, fire hydrants and other related fire protection equipment.
- Knowledge of fire and disaster plans.
- Ability to perform physical functions commonly related to firefighting, hazardous materials work and medical emergencies, such as lifting at least 200 lbs., climbing, and manipulation of firefighting and hazardous material equipment.
- Hold a Texas Commission on Fire Protection Basic Structure Firefighter certification or be certifiable (eligible to apply for certification) as a Basic Structure Firefighter in accordance with the Standards Manual for paid Fire Protection Personnel and complete certification requirements within 90 days of employment.
- Hold and maintain certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) at minimum in the state of Texas or National Registry
- Obtain and maintain a Texas Class ‘B’ Driver’s License within 90 days.
- Maintain qualification in accordance with the Fire Protection Engineering and Training & Development Technology approved qualifications.
- Demonstrate potential and aptitude for the duties of a firefighter as determined by past qualification and interview.
- Ability to read, write and comprehend applicable written and/or verbal instructions.
- Maintain knowledge, familiarity and application of Plant directives and standards, Fire Department Internal Operating Procedures (IOPs) and other governing documents as applicable.
- Maintain knowledge of applicable Federal, State, Department of Energy (DOE), Corporate and Plant rules, regulations, Labor Agreements and Plant-wide operating policies and procedures.
