What You'll Do
The Y-12 National Security Complex is currently recruiting for summer 2026 internship opportunities in Field Engineering.
Provides support to Construction direct-hire craft by performing general Field Engineering responsibilities supporting construction projects. Completes assigned tasks with guidance from senior field engineers and receives technical direction to assist the field engineering department. Reviews and interprets drawings and specifications to determine if information is adequate for successful completion of construction. Reviews construction work for compliance with drawings and specifications. Learns the process to perform constructability reviews during design preparation and execution. Maintains direct relationship with the Construction Managers/Construction Superintendents and the responsible Project Managers (PM) to execute the scope of work. Provides technical assistance in all phases of construction formation, project execution, testing/inspection, and project closeout. Participates in obtaining any required permits/clearances, lockouts, Escort Agreements, and work authorizations prior to commencing work on site. Performs verification of work in progress to ensure requirements of safety, security, quality (technical drawings and specifications), environmental control, workmanship, and schedule are met. Assists in the preparation of procedures, administrative and technical documents.

Minimum Job Requirements
- To be considered for the Field Engineering Intern position, you must be working toward or have completed a degree in Construction Management or Engineering. Students who have graduated are eligible up to two years post graduation. In addition, you must have completed (at a minimum) your sophomore year in college, have an overall GPA (grade point average) of 3.0/4.0 or above, and be a United States Citizen.

Preferred Job Requirements
- Must have effective oral and written communication skills and be able to interact effectively with all levels of personnel and management. The candidate must be a self-starter who can manage multiple projects/tasks with supervisor direction and work well within a team.
- GPA 3.0/4.0 from an from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET.
