Overview:
We are seeking a dynamic and innovative Scientific Lead for developing Quantum-Accelerated High-Performance Computing (QHPC) capabilities. This role includes leading teams to codesign hardware, algorithms, benchmarks and software for QHPC systems, aiming to advance our strategic goals in leveraging quantum computing and high-performance computing (HPC) to develop world-leading scientific computing capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive the strategic development and implementation of QHPC capabilities in line with the Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility (OLCF) objectives
- Collaborate with existing initiatives, including the Quantum Science Center, to identify operational capabilities and integrate quantum computing solutions into HPC environments
- Establish and oversee a cross-cutting strategic activity that connects ongoing investments and activities across various quantum computing initiatives, including the Quantum
- Computing User Program (QCUP), Institutional investment in quantum computing resources, the DARPA-funded Quantum Benchmarking Initiative, and the DOE-DARPA Quantum Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
- Develop and apply quantum benchmarks to assess technology incorporation from vendor offerings, institutional resources, and evaluate opportunities in quantum networking to enhance QHPC capabilities.
- Demonstrate QHPC community leadership by organizing workshops, reports, position papers and detailed roadmaps to foster cross-agency engagement and outline utility-scale roadmaps for the QHPC initiative.
Qualifications:
- PhD in Quantum Computing, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field with at least 10 years of experience.
- Demonstrated experience in high-performance computing and quantum computing systems with a strong record of publications advancing the state-of-the art.
- Strong understanding of system deployment and integration of quantum solutions within HPC frameworks.
- Knowledge of current trends and advancements in quantum networking and quantum benchmarking.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage with diverse teams and stakeholders.
