Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Senior Software Systems Architect to work in our Scientific Computing & AI Division. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off. The Scientific Computing & AI Division leads research into the application of AI & data-driven design techniques towards accelerating the design and construction timelines of advanced energy projects, as well as optimizing operations within the energy industry. The division focuses on changing the way project personnel author and manage engineering data, building digital engineering ecosystems to connect this data, and leveraging emerging software technologies to increase intelligent automation across the project lifecycle. This group consists of engineers and scientists with backgrounds in both traditional engineering disciplines (mechanical, civil, etc.) and software development, collectively committed to securing our energy future by eliminating repetitive and time consuming tasks currently bottlenecking engineering, construction, and operational workflows. Responsibilities Include: - Design, develop, analyze, and maintain overall software system architecture, which may include both local and cloud environments. Coordinate design and integration of complete solutions including multiple commercial and custom subsystems. - Maintain in-depth knowledge of new and emerging technologies (e.g., AI/ML) required to provide long-term enhancements to the reliability, performance, and functionality of system architecture. Develop specifications for new products and services. Research and recommend technology and information to improve the current systems and meet future mission needs. - Perform system design and programming, ensuring that the databases are configured correctly. - Provide suggestions for best practices for identity management, access controls, and credential integration for multi-factor authentication (MFA). - Provide technical support and modifications to the network to ensure network is operating at optimal conditions. - Manage the planning and installation of all hardware and software for INL systems. Work with stakeholders and data owners/stewards to identify requirements and expected outcomes. Model and frame business scenarios that are meaningful and which impact critical business processes and/or decisions. Develop customizations to integrate applications and federate services across multiple organizations. - Responsible for technical planning, architecture development, and modification of specifications that meet performance, scalability, reliability, security, and other needs. Utilize engineering knowledge and principles to test and place hardware and software systems into production and to aid in the analysis, design, development, and assessment of INL systems, devices, and networks. Provide support to technical resources during execution of projects. - Perform testing and conflict analysis on new systems to be released to INL employees and provide results to the - appropriate INL organizations to support organizational business objectives. Results performed by this analysis often become basis for INL standard configuration changes. - Provide technical direction and mentoring for junior staff to increase their knowledge, skills, and abilities. Coach and train members of the division in the effective use of standards and tools within the established architecture. - Document best practices of software engineering and software defined services. Design, develop, install, patch and upgrade supporting products; establish policies and document procedures to maintain them. - Ensure functions and capabilities of the management systems are utilized efficiently and appropriately using an architectural approach. - You will report to the Department Manager. - This posting closes: 7/31/25
