Spectra Tech, Inc. is hiring for a Nuclear Criticality Safety Support Specialist in Oak Ridge, TN.
We are seeking a Nuclear Criticality Safety Support Specialist to support operations at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, TN. This role provides vital mission support to the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).
The ideal candidate is a nuclear safety specialist with demonstrated experience in addressing complex nuclear safety issues at DOE nuclear facilities, particularly within the NNSA complex, including nuclear criticality safety. The candidate must have a proven track record in investigation, resolution, and analysis of safety concerns, as well as a strategic mindset for developing and implementing organizational improvements.
The role requires collaboration with facility operations and support organizations, providing subject matter expertise (SME) in assessments, reviews, and improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Task 1: NCSC Meeting Support
- Prepare NCSC meeting agendas (at least one week in advance)
- Attend meetings and draft minutes
- Provide comments, observations, and guidance as needed
- Lead subgroups on special issues upon request
Task 2: Independent Reviews & Assessments
- Conduct or coordinate reviews of nuclear facility operations
- Evaluate policies, trends, program management, and evaluation quality
- Propose solutions, corrective actions, and improvements
- May include event or causal analysis
Task 3: Facility Tours
- Coordinate and participate in escorted facility tours
- Prepare brief observation reports upon request
Task 4: Monthly Highlights
- Compile and present monthly NCS-related summaries (YFO, DNFSB, LL, Y-12 issues, etc.)
- Develop status and issue presentations for the NCSC
Task 5: Training Development
- Design and deliver specialized nuclear safety training
- Create supporting materials (slide decks, lesson plans)
Task 6: Annual Report Preparation
- Draft the NCSC preliminary annual report per charter requirements
- Include analysis of trends, assessment findings, staff qualifications, and organizational effectiveness
- Secure approval from STR/Manager on format and content
Education & Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree (Engineering preferred) with 10–14 years of experience,
- or
- Master’s degree (Engineering preferred) with 10–13 years of experience
- Direct experience in nuclear safety at DOE/NNSA facilities
- Specialization in nuclear criticality safety required.
