Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Responsibilities
The Construction Superintendent will be expected to model company values and supervise bargaining employee resources effectively and efficiently. Monitoring bargaining personnel in the performance of construction activities on facility Structures, Systems, and Component installations. This work is in an active nuclear facility and involves underground and infrastructure utility upgrades, concrete placement, tenant improvements, new construction and remodeling, and nuclear construction activities. The position will be responsible for scheduling, coordinating and supervising craft employee activities, and training. This may involve supervising one or more trade groups and/or subcontractors in or around the facility. An Ability to clearly communicate both oral and written with craft, managers, customers, and vendors is a key responsibility for this position. This position will work closely with project managers regarding all project and facility activities. At MSTS, Superintendents are encouraged to keep all lines of communication open with the bargaining employees, Project Managers, and Facility Managers. This position reports to the Balance of Plant Construction Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform the functions of a Construction Superintendent; directly supervise individual contributors, including approving time, conducting performance evaluations, and participating in the recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training of staff.
- Implement and follow company policies, procedures and directives.
- Establish activity level work assignments and or work projects.
- Read and interpret construction plans and specifications
- Layout projects for building locations and site work
- Organize and supervise day-to-day operations, ensuring that schedules are kept.
- Work closely with the General Foreman to track and approve bargaining personnel work hours weekly ensuring time is charged accurately.
- Establish and maintain a solid working relationship with hiring hall representatives for the bargaining personnel that you supervise.
- Provide oversight of Structures, Systems, and Component installations.
- Monitor performance against metrics and goals as established/approved by others.
- Coordinate project-related activities with General Foreman and Foreman.
- Ensure that required equipment is on the project when needed.
- Recommend and coordinate field design change documentation due to changed field conditions and overcome adverse situations.
- Work independently. Investigate jobsites for familiarization and orientation with project requirements.
- Provide analysis and solution of construction problems and interpret drawings, applicable codes, and give verbal and written instructions relevant to project requirements.
- Prepare material requisitions.
- Prepare and/or assist in the preparation of cost estimates and material takeoffs.
- Participate in Startup and Turnover activities.
- Control documentation per company requirements.
- Support the creation of a work environment that fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.
- Monitor job costs and trend logs.
- Assist Work Planning with estimates regarding, labor, and equipment needs when requested.
- Ability to handle daily project problems quickly and efficiently.
- Interact daily with subordinates frequently with manager.
- May perform work of the same type as those being supervised, as well as, providing technical guidance.
- Superintendents are required to attend weekly manpower, and supervisor meeting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training and experience, plus a minimum of 8 years of related and progressively responsible experience.
- Proficient knowledge of the construction industry and union personnel.
- Ability to communicate (oral and written) with employees, managers, customers, vendors, etc.
- Ability to supervise others, and to set priorities.
- Intermediate computer skills needed, experience using excel and Microsoft Office Suite, is a plus.
- Skill and expertise to provide guidance in field and design engineering conflict resolution between construction codes, regulatory requirements and technical specifications.
- A combination of knowledge in underground utilities, concrete, tenant improvements, new construction, remodel and/or nuclear construction is desirable.
- Understanding of project scheduling principles and knowledge to provide input for schedules, work planning, and cost estimates.
- Experience on civil construction projects, is preferred.
- Ability to monitor and measure performance.
- The primary work location will be at the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada).
- Work Schedule is 4/10's Monday - Thursday 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM. (subject to change)
- Ability to work occasional scheduled or unscheduled overtime when necessary.
- Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2 , “Personnel Security”. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4 , “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Annual salary range for this position is: $101,254.40 - $162,011.20.
Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
