Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Subsurface Investigator to work on our Construction Services team. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our Central Facilities 45 minutes west of Idaho Falls with every Friday off. You will perform detailed investigations of subsurface conditions to support various construction, planning, engineering, and scientific projects. You will apply research, specialized software, engineering, and geophysical techniques to gather, analyze, and interpret data related to the subsurface environment. You will report directly to the manager of the Construction Services team. Responsibilities Include: - Conduct field investigations using plans and drawings, legacy information, geophysical methods such as, radio frequency pipe and cable systems, ground-penetrating radar (GPR), and magnetic location to characterize subsurface conditions. - Ensure the safety of construction and maintenance teams by identifying safe penetration points on walls, floors, ceilings, and ground. - Design and implement subsurface investigation plans. Perform real-time location of anomalies beneath surfaces using advanced scanning techniques. - Analyze and interpret engineering plans and geophysical and measured data to create detailed subsurface models and maps. - Locate and mark anomalies and utilities under the ground, walls, floors, and ceilings. Set marker balls on all new and found utilities, document details in reports, and post updates on iMap. - Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate subsurface data into broader research and engineering projects. - Prepare detailed reports summarizing findings, including pictures and drawings. Prepare technical presentations and documentation of findings for both internal and external stakeholders. - Maintain accurate records and keep detailed logs of all activities. - Ensure compliance with all safety, health, and environmental regulations and standards during field activities. - Stay current with advancements in subsurface investigation technologies and methodologies. Provide cranes with safe locations for outrigger placement. - Offer constructability analysis for new construction sites using legacy information when requested. - Schedule work efficiently around construction projects to minimize workflow disruptions. - Provide contractors with information needed for future project bidding. - Consult on new construction locations and CERCLA sites. - Other duties as assigned.
