Overview:
The Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) seeks a HEPA/Ventilation Inspector who will focus on HEPA filter aerosol leak testing for nuclear and non-nuclear applications, in-place Carbon Adsorber-halide leak testing, air flow inspections of industrial and laboratory local exhaust ventilation (LEV), and negative air machines. This position resides within the Systems & Process Inpections Group in the Fabrication, Instrumentation, & Inspection Division within the Facilities and Operations Directorate.
The successful candidate for this position will team with engineers, craft workers and other support personnel in task preparation and planning to ensure that work is conducted in a safe, secure, compliant and efficient manner. Inspectors work closely with building occupants, facility management personnel and system owners to ensure that the inspection needs of research and support organizations are met promptly and cost effectively.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:

Perform in place HEPA filter aerosol leak testing for nuclear and non-nuclear applications, including portable units such as vacuums and negative air machines.

Perform in-place Carbon Adsorber-halide leak testing.

Perform air flow inspections of industrial and laboratory local exhaust ventilation (LEV) such as fume hoods, canopies, enclosures, and snorkels.

Ensure inspections are performed safely and consistent with federal regulations, codes, and standards, and ORNL procedures.

Coordinate work scheduling for inspections and testing.

Assist with the implementation of work controls, processes, and procedures necessary for inspection, calibration, installation, and maintenance so that work can be performed in a safe, compliant, and effective manner minimizing interruptions or negative impact on customers.

Basic Qualifications:
-
AS degree in mechanical engineering technology or a related technical discipline and a minimum of 5-7 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered

Experience with Federal codes and regulations
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Able to successfully complete an in-place leak testing course such as ANSI/AMSE N-510 testing workshop.

Familiarity with:
-
ANSI/AMSE N-510 Testing Nuclear Air Treatment Systems.
-
ANSI/ AMSE N-509 Nuclear Power plant Air Cleaning Units and Components.
-
ANSI/AMSE N-511 In-place Testing of Nuclear Air Treatment, Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning Systems.

Excellent written and oral communication skills, including comprehension of technical documents.

Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.

Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.

Computer experience with standard software such as MS-Excel, MS-Word, and MS-Outlook is desirable.

Physical Requirements: Work involves various physical requirements and working conditions. As such, a pre-hire physical will be required after offer.

HSPD-12 PIV badge: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain an HSPD-12 PIV badge.

Q or L clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
