Idaho National Laboratory is hiring an Energy Storage Research & Analysis Department Manager to work in our Energy and Environment Science and Technology directorate. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off. You will Manage, implement, coordinate with cross-functional communication. Develop and establish operational policies within area managed. May participate in strategy development for corporate function. Requires detailed functional expertise and broad company knowledge. You will report to the Division Director for Integrated Energy Technologies. The Department specializes in data driven methods which advance the understanding of electrochemical system performance for batteries and capacitors to improve energy efficiency, energy security, for US transportation, grid, and commercial applications. A major focus is on advancing the understanding of the core scientific interactions which occur in batteries as power and energy demands increase. Responsibilities: - Manage the activities of a department or a discipline through subordinate supervisors and/or professionals. Provide guidance to subordinates within the latitude of established company policies. - Responsible for the effective operation of activities of major significance to the organization. Decisions impact others in the immediate team and influences methods and techniques. - Execute financials, business planning, organizational priorities, and workforce. Ensure that budgets, schedules, and performance standards are realistically set and attained. - Typically manage employees who perform similar tasks. May manage supervisors, exempt, and non-exempt staff. - Receive objective based assignments and determine resources to meet schedules and goals. - Recommend changes to policies and establish procedures that affect department or multiple disciplines. Participate in the development of overall objectives and long-term goals of the department and possibly the division. - Interact frequently with subordinate supervisors, customers, and/or functional peer group professionals, involving matters between sections and multiple units. - Partner with key contacts outside their own area of expertise and other external stakeholders. - Communicate and present results and recommendations across discipline. - Third level of management with human resource responsibilities. Typically, all work is performed through the management of others. - Other duties as assigned.
