Overview:
We are seeking an Arc Flash Electrical Engineer who will work in a collaborative environment focusing on the design and maintenance of power distribution systems as well as arc flash hazard analysis using SKM software for the Facilities and Operations Directorate (F&O). This position resides in the Reliability Team in the Reliability, Maintainability, and Sustainability Group in the Integrated Operations Support Division, F&O Directorate, at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
Major Duties/Responsibilities:

Model facility power systems using SKM and conduct the necessary analysis which includes short circuit analysis, protective device coordination, equipment evaluation, arc flash and shock hazard analysis.

Engage in meetings and walkthroughs to understand and quantify the scope of work and gather data from facility electrical systems.

Extract crucial information from electrical drawings, legacy drawings, field data, and submittals

Develop reports for engineering studies.

Format the results and provide recommendations to remedy power system deficiencies.

Report creation utilizing software packages to create analysis reports on the facility electrical systems.

Review reports by collaborating with facility engineers and electrical designers to identify risk remediation or mitigation techniques.

Label printing of safety identification for equipment per the generated reports.

Ensure hazard warning labels are applied to all studied devices by performing periodic walkthroughs of facilities.

Provide OSHA arc flash and hazardous energy control support to facility maintenance teams for new product integration or facility renovation.

Work with reliability and facility engineers to work on developing predictive maintenance tasks and schedules for assets.

Complete training and development to improve skills and knowledge surrounding arc flash analysis, tools, and standards.

Basic Qualifications:

An accredited B.S. degree in electrical engineering

A minimum of 1 year of total experience in electrical systems, operations, or maintenance

Familiar with electrical drawings (specifically one-lines, power plans, and panel schedules)
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Ability to utilize software packages to model electrical systems
-
Ability to understand and manage technical issues related to facility infrastructure
-
Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Knowledge of NFPA 70E, IEEE 1584, NEC and/or NESC
-
Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.

Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.
Special Requirements:

Physical Requirements: Work involves various physical requirements and working conditions. As such, a pre-hire physical will be required after offer.

Q or L clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
