The Business Services Directorate (BSD) provides high-quality business services to support the Lab's research initiatives by participating in cross-functional teams with a focus on risk mitigation and cost management, which is a critical component to the Lab's success. Led by the Chief Financial Officer, Brookhaven’s Business Services Directorate includes the Budget Office, Fiscal Services Division, Procurement & Property Management Division, Chief Financial Office, and the Business Operations Offices. The Directorate manages a broad range of financial activities, including the planning and implementation of the Lab’s fiscal matters and its approximately $800 million annual budget.
The Business Services Directorate (BSD) has openings for student assistant positions within varying business offices within the office of the CFO (OCFO).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Student Assistants will work in one or more of the following areas that report to the OCFO: Budget Office, Fiscal Services (Accounting, Accounts Payable, Travel, Conference Management, Payment Processing), Procurement and Property Management, and Information Technology which support the Business Services Directorate and within the Internal Audit Office.
The students will assist with the preparation of financial reporting using PeopleSoft or other accounting software; travel expense audits, payroll timecard preparation, contract close-outs; internal audit planning and business system report language report writing and in support of:
Project budgeting trending analysis;
Project costing;
General ledger account reconciliation;
Contract closeouts;
Business systems process analysis.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Candidates must be majoring in one of the following: Business/Finance, Computer Sciences, Math, Economics or Accounting.
The ideal candidate must complete at least his/her second year of college and have maintained an overall GPA of at least 3.0.
Individual must possess hands-on knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Intermediate to advanced Excel skills preferred.
Basic web-based computer skills.
Familiarity with Outlook and PeopleSoft.

Summer employment programs start on or about ~ June 2, 2025, and go on through August 8, 2025. As business needs command, Student Assistant appointments may be extended through the academic year, pursuant to Student Assistant appointment policies.
