Job Description
Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is seeking a highly qualified and motivated National Security Analyst responsible for the coordination, development, and execution of its portfolio supporting NNSA’s Office of Nonproliferation and Arms Control (NA-24) and Office of International Nuclear Safeguards (NA-241). This individual will join the Global Security Directorate (GSD), contributing to these missions by supporting international outreach activities with partner countries, technology development for use by the IAEA and other verification agreements, human capital development and university engagement, and the development of policy and new concepts and approaches for improved nuclear safeguards.
The successful candidate will work independently and as a team member in support of senior program management to organize, execute, and enable communication for SRNL programs focused on R&D, nonproliferation and security policy, export control of goods and technology used in developing WMD, and other technical advisory programs. This position will provide implementation support for SRNL’s nonproliferation and arms control programs including serving as the site coordinator for various partner programs administered by external stakeholders in the DOE, reviewing and deliver project milestones, technical deliverables, proposal, and provide communications to external customers. Focus areas for these efforts include various forms of export control and review, nuclear verification programs, and nonproliferation policy conducted at SRNL for DOE customers.
Responsibilities
- Support United States Government, policy, security, and/or technical missions for nuclear nonproliferation and safeguards.
- Interface with SRNL leadership, federal oversight resources, and other sites in the DOE complex
- Provide written reports and presentations as necessary. From time to time deliver presentations to various stakeholders.
- Support the preparation of proposals for ongoing or new work.
- Under the guidance of senior staff, collect and collate information that can be used by experienced National Security Staff for briefing and further analysis and distribution. Assignments will increase in complexity and breadth with experience.
- Assure security compliance and makes security an integral part of every task, including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job compromises security.
- Maintaining the appropriate security clearance and the proper handling of classified materials and information is a condition of the position.
- Ensure all activities follow SRNL safety, quality, records, security, and training programs.
- Some travel will be required.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in fields of science, engineering, policy, international affairs, security studies, national security studies and 4-6 years of relevant experience, or a Master's + 3-5 yrs or PhD + 2-4 yrs.
- Ability to successfully coordinate concurrent projects of various types, including both policy and technology areas
- Experience with one or more disciplines of materials operations, program or project management, safeguards or material accounting, nondestructive analysis methods, nuclear material production
- Capability of working with an interdisciplinary team
- Prior experience in supporting NNSA/DOE-wide task teams; general understanding of NA-24 missions
- Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Must be able to communicate effectively to government agencies and facility resources
- For ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is Legally Required
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in fields of chemistry, mathematics, physics, nuclear physics, nuclear engineering, political sciences, international affairs/security studies/national security studies (with a minimum of six or more college level courses in statistics, mathematics, engineering, or physical sciences).
- Master’s degree or higher related to political sciences, international affairs, international relations, security studies or technical degree with experience with policy and international engagement.
- Extensive knowledge of the people, mission, and activities of the NNSA’s Office of Nonproliferation and Arms Control (NA-24) and International Nuclear Safeguards (NA-241)
- Firm understanding of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Department of Safeguards, including experience work at or with the IAEA
- Demonstrated ability to successfully propose new work to federal sponsors and/or work with same
- Experience with Python and/or R, or similar tools for data analysis
- Active Q clearance
