Overview:

We are seeking a Computational Reactor Physicist who will support the Nuclear Energy and Fuel Cycle Division in the Fusion and Fission Energy and Science Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

Develop scientific research in advanced reactor physics modeling and simulation through novel methods and algorithm design for CPU and GPU architectures.

Interact effectively across organization structures with staff scientists and engineers and be an effective representative of ORNL and their research to sponsors and the professional community.

Contribute to new reactor physics research proposals and conduct world-class research that is published in peer-reviewed journals.

Serve as a role model for integrity and safety in the conduct of research, mentoring of early career staff, and engagement with scientific and professional societies.

A Ph.D. and 2+ years of relevant research experience outside of Ph.D.

Expertise in software development (C++ preferred) for advanced reactor modeling and simulation, as demonstrated through research and associated publications, with focus on one or more of the following: Monte Carlo transport, deterministic transport, depletion, multigroup cross section processing, and various geometry models (CAD, unstructured mesh, CSG, etc).

Familiarity with established nuclear systems analysis software (such as SCALE, VERA, MCNP, Serpent and MOOSE-based tools).

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.

Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.
