Overview:
The Environment, Safety, Health, and Quality Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) invites applications for the Radiological Safety Training Manager position within the Nuclear and Radiological Protection Division (NRPD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
ORNL is the largest U.S. Department of Energy Science and Energy laboratory, conducting basic and applied research to deliver transformative solutions to compelling problems in energy and security. ORNL operates five non-reactor nuclear facilities and dozens of radiological facilities that perform nuclear research and isotope production activities to support the advancement of nuclear power applications, renewable energy, basic scientific research, and isotope production for medical and industrial applications. ORNL also operates the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS), a one-of-a-kind research facility that provides the most intense pulsed neutron beams worldwide for scientific research and industrial development. The NRPD is responsible for partnering with operations and research staff to support the science mission while protecting staff from nuclear and radiological hazards and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The NRPD provides radiological worker training to staff and training for radiological control technicians to support the Lab’s science mission.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:

Manage the implementation of DOE training requirements for Radiological Worker training and Radiological Control Technician (RCT) training.

Manage, hire, and train staff as needed to meet the training mission.

Develop dynamic learning activities using immersive technology to enhance Radiological worker and RCT training experiences.

Manage computer systems to maintain training documentation and coordinate revisions of the systems as needed.

Develop and maintain training documents (procedures, Job Performance Measure forms, tests, PowerPoints, etc.)

Solicit input from NRPD staff in developing RCT continuing training.

Develop and coordinate Radiological Operations Manager training.

Coordinate the scheduling of all classes and adjust as needed when demand changes.

Maintain training spaces and equipment/supplies as needed.

Basic Qualifications:

BS degree in Health Physics, Organizational Management, or related technical field.

A minimum of eight years of applicable experience. A combination of relevant work experience and education will be considered.

Experience within the DOE Complex and practical experience implementing a Radiation Protection Program per 10 CFR 835.

Demonstrated field experience as a Radiological Technician and/or Radiological Protection Operations Manager.
Preferred Qualifications:

Registration as a Radiation Protection Technologist by the National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists (NRRPT)

Excellent computer skills, including experience developing training materials.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Experience within the DOE Complex and practical experience implementing a Radiation Protection Program per 10 CFR 835.

Motivated self-starter who can work independently and participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.

Demonstrated technical abilities and verbal and written communication excellence are required. Must have good interpersonal skills and be able to lead a team effectively.
Special Requirements:

Q clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
