Overview:
We are seeking a Radiological Control Technician IV who will focus on implementing radiation protection in support of ORNLs world-class mission. This position resides in the Radiation Protection Operations (RPO) Neutron Science Facilities, Isotope and Materials Science, and Balance of Lab Groups in the Nuclear & Radiological Protection Division, Environment, Safety, Health, & Quality Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

Performing routine radiation detection instrument performance tests.
-
Radiation and contamination monitoring.
-
Collection of air samples.
-
Posting and labeling of radioactive materials.
-
Access control into radiological areas.
-
Radioactive waste surveys.
-
Radiological job coverage during higher hazard radiological work.

Mentoring of radiological workers.

Basic Qualifications:
-
Associates degree and 7-10 years of experience as an RCT or applied Radiation Protection role within DOE, Commercial Nuclear Power, or the Armed Services complexes. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Currently qualified as a DOE Radiological Control Technician.

Qualified as an ANSI/ANS 3.1-1987 Senior RCT.

Active registration with the National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists (NRRPT).

Broad experience in operational radiation protection at a DOE National Laboratory or research reactor.

Ability to serve on a Field Monitoring Team for the ORNL Emergency Response Organization.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.
-
Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.

Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.

Physical Requirements: Work involves various physical requirements and working conditions. As such, a pre-hire physical will be required after offer.

HSPD-12 PIV badge: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain an HSPD-12 PIV badge.

Q or L clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing About ORNL.
